Default What does it mean to "rely on a carrier unlock"?

Im planning on jailbreaking and unlocking my phone but right now its running on 4.3.1 and has the newest baseband i think (5.16.02) so I just have to wait for the unlock to come out for it, should I still use Sn0wbreeze or is it okay to use redsn0w.

The reason I ask is because Sn0wbreeze keeps crashing on me and I havnt been able to jailbreak my iphone 3gs with it. Basically im not sure if relying on a carrier unlock means you are planning on unlocking your phone at any time or it just means that it is already unlocked. Thanks!

It means you are not on official carrier and need to unlock. Yes you can use redsnow to jailbreak since you already have that baseband.

    no prob
If you REALLY need to unlock then you can use redsnow to update to the iPad baseband but you will lose GPS if you do.
