Default Switching Data from iPhone 4 to 3G?

I haven't found specific, easy instructions on how to do this. So I apologize in advance for my newbie-ness.

I am traveling to Italy and need to use my friend's 3G to unlock (I have a jailbroken iPhone 4 4.1, and no unlock is available of course) and use an Italian SIM card.

My dilemma is transferring my backup file from my iPhone 4 to the old 3G without restoring and updating because I NEED to jailbreak and unlock! Unless there is a way to update, jailbreak and unlock the newest software apple offers. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Chris

As long as they are on the same firmware then you can share the backup between them.

    OK I got the 3g.

Its firmware is 05.11.07. While the iphone 4 is 02.10.04.

I guess I'm gonna have to do some modifications to be able to transfer the data and still UNLOCK?

That's your baseband. You would want to see your firmware version such as 4.1 or 3.1.3 or something.

Not your modem firmware. What firmware is the iPhone itself on? 3.1.2 I am guessing?

That firmware will be said to be "too old" by iTunes to restore from the ip4 backup. You'd have to upgrade the 3G with a custom fw to 4.1 or 4.2.1.

He said he had a old backup that he used though, so that may have worked out for him. If you want to jailbreak on 3.1.2 then redsnow 0.9.4 is what you need.

Right, but I was thinking in terms of iPhone 4 to iPhone 3G. Not sure if OP has one from another phone. iPhone 4 could've never been on anything lower than 4.0 which I assumed would also not go onto a 3.1.x device.

I actually just restored it, luckily! After it syncs all the apps and music I will work on the unlock.

Just to clarify, I had an old 3GS backup file, not the ip4 one lol

Now I'm having a problem with the sync. I synced it to iTunes to completely restore with apps and music but it keeps crashing iTunes! Why is this happening?? I'm using a Mac computer and have never had this issue.
