Advice on how to take under water (sea) pictures on ip4
hey i was wondering if anyone could help me out...
ADVICE ON HOW TO TAKE UNDER WATER (SEA) PICTURES ON IP4
i bought one of these...
[ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/iDry-Waterproof-Phone-Case-iPhone/dp/B003SAIBGE]iDry Waterproof Phone Case for iPhone 3G / 3GS /4: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Leisure[/ame]
it worked great on holiday diving in the sea with my 3gs but its almost impossible to take pictures with it underwater because the touch screen becomes almost completely useless from the water pressure.
i was wondering if there was a way to get the camera application to take pictures using the home button as a shutter button?
any help or advice on how to take underwater pictures on my new iphone 4 underwater would be AMAZING!
THANKS GUYS!

i took it diving in greece scuba diving to around 5 meters in the sea! not a single problem at all, i agree its a bit risky and i only did it after extensive bath testing! haha
its just so annoying that under the water you cant take pictures with it unless u want to record a video in which case you have to start recording on the surface before going under!
playing music through the speakers inside this case sounds absolutely amazing i cant recommend it an more

Just plug the headphone jack & dive in! It'll be fine, FaceTime is useful also cuz it's hard to talk underwater!
Lol, just kidding! I would never take my iPhone 4 underwater unless I was in a submarine. If something were to go wrong, the replacement cost of just one iPhone 4 would have covered the price of a good camera. One made for that purpose, with warranty & proven testing. Maybe I'm speaking out my a#%, I'm neither a photographer or diver but I'd advise against it. If ur determined this is what u want, maybe buy the cheapest or a seperate used 8GB iPod touch in case it gets damaged. JMO, good luck with wtvr u decide!

Sorry, cant find an answer to the question, but like the look of the case so just ordered one from idryworld.co.uk as P&P cheaper than amazon.
Looks good.
Wonder how easy it would be to make the home button take a pic. I'll see what I can find out.He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

"Activator" from Cydia, can make many gestures control but not sure about picture. I use an app called "Snappy" where anywhere, even the lockscreen u can tap & hold statusbar clock. It opens the cam & takes a picture in like 3 seconds. In "Snappy" settings turn on the "snap on launch" option. Also u can change the gesture to launch "Snappy," with activator.

I had the same idea and had already messaged Ryan Petrich and he says that potentially activator could do it.
Might be worth the OP asking him if he could do it.He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

iphone takes crappy photos in dim areas anyways. my advise, get a cheap digital cam that takes good photos in dim areas/powerful flash and get a waterproof camera bag. like this one:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/nereus-...-dc-wp20-11193
I used a "Nereus" brand camera bag for these pics and POS HP 7 MP camera in Hawaii. first one is obviously above the water:

you may notice the black ring on the top corner. that's from a rubber bumper on the lens cap to protect the bag. get a bag that's specifically for your camera, noting where your buttons and controls are and if you can even press them
now underwater in a pool:

both on nice sunny days.Last edited by Madman604x; 04-04-2011 at 09:18 PM.

CameraButtons
I'd forgotten about that one.
Can you use the volume buttons in this case?He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

04-06-2011, 09:41 AM #13There's a tweak on Cydia that allows you to take pics with the volume keys..
Can't remember the name right now but I'll get back to yayeah i have it... its called snappy! i recomend it to anyone and everyone its really a nice feature to use theCan you use the volume buttons in this case?
volume keys as a shutter button, and something i think apple shouldent have left to the jailbreakers!
however the case i use for underwater photo/video's doesnt alow u to access the volume butons! hence why ineeded it to be the home button to be the shutter!
THANKS FOR EVERYONES HELP SO FAR...
and...
i do know about waterproof cameras and such, but i dont want any more kit/wanna spend the money, especially when i have all the kit right in front of me its just a small tweak to softwear that needs to be done to turn your iphone into an underwater camera with a £9.99 case.... it just seem's to simple!!!
@confucious activator dosent allow the home button to be used as a shutter button, at least not from what i can see. which is probably because of the issues with how to quit the camera app after use. but i was thinking why couldn't you just enter the photo viewer and then quit from their! i don't know who the author of activator is, im an incredibly keen jailbreaker but know nothing about how to create tweaks and such... i would have thought it would be quite simple to do tho as a tweak to be used in conjunction with the native camera app... or even a stand alone underwater (or any other use) camera app... ive spoken to quite a few people who have experienced this problem and agree it would be a welcome addition!
THANK YOU EVERYONE SO FAR!!
still waiting to get those underwater snaps tho!!

The app I was thinking of was called CameraButtons - which is why I mentioned it. Unfortunately it's not what you want.
Getting in touch with Ryan is probably your best bet but he's a bit busy at the mo.He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

don't forget a bout the risk of potential water damage. $500 phone VS $200 digi cam.
