After any Cydia install that requests a respring or a reboot....

    1. Ignore the respring or reboot button.
    2. Hit the home button. This will exit Cydia and you're back to springboard.
    3. Manually power off/on the unit.

    It works !

Now I hope I can remember to do this every time (haha)

Note: I never tried the Home button after Cydia finished. I just assumed it was disabled and (more assumptions) the power/home button combo were hardware related which could not be disabled. I can have strange assumptions some times

It's refreshing to know "it wasn't just me"
Note: Also tried 3.1.3. Same problem.

Thank goodness there is an acceptable work-around (as you mentioned before):

    1. Ignore any/all Cydia respring/reboot messages.
    2. Instead, press Home and exit to springboard.
    3. Manually power off/on.

    Works like a champ
I've tried this but Activator stops me from powering off.

I get a message saying that powering off could potentially screw up the installation going on in Cydia.

    iPhone 3gs 3.1.3 spirited!
Also i after upgrade to cydia 1.1.1 when press button for repring have Spinning Wheel of Death! now anytime i must force reboot manualy!
Is there a FIX for this?
also in my other iPhone 3gs 3.1.3 is the same!

in other forum I have found a way to fix apps upgrade in cydia 1.1.1

After upgrade the apps it will ask to restart springboard. Don't press it instead press home button to exit then go to winterboard and deactivate and reactivate any theme in it and let it respring. After that everything will be just fine.

    Other say:
uninstall backgrounder, that fixed it for me

So the only solution for now is the WinterBoard's respring. Let's hope that there will be an update.

Same issue, restored a dozen times using everything from pwnagetool to redsn0w to tools from the old days, did a manual .deb install nothing I tried works. Then realized closing the app using the home button works. So I've been doing that as has been suggested in this thread. Sadly I'm using 3.1.3 (3.1.2 had the same issue obviously) on a 2G iPhone so I don't have any upgrade options.

I'm giving this phone away to a first time iPhone user so it would have been nice if it worked properly. Oh well, won't be much longer till those moth balls are released
