Default PLEASE HELP!! iPhone 3G Frozen After Reset Of Settings

PLEASE HELP!! I use modmyi forums all the time for various different reasons and it is always been beneficial. This is the first time that I am posting an original thread asking for help. I have a jailbroken iPhone 3G that was given to me by a friend, but is not working correctly. The phone is experiencing the common problem of being frozen with just the Apple logo present. This happened as a result of my friend trying to erase all data on his phone by going into Settings and then Erase All Content & Settings. When the phone was done doing what it had do the Apple logo appeared and the phone will not boot up. The phone is now frozen up at this point and after about 10 minutes it will flash black and the logo will disappear and then reappear. This will continue until the battery dies and it informs me to plug it in. I can not turn the phone off and iTunes will also not recognize the phone. I have done everything I could think of to fix this problem from trying to put into DFU mode, tried entering restore mode, holding home & power to turn off (phone will not even turn off), only boot tethered in redsn0w (Will not even go into DFU mode), and every other combination of holding both home and power buttons. I have searched youtube and the internet for hours at end and all I find is to do the things that I already have done. I am not worried about losing any data on the phone, I just want to get the phone to where iTunes recognizes it. If someone out there has any solutions other then the same repetitive ones I have already tried, PLEASE TELL ME! I appreciate everyones time in advanced and hopefully I can get this problem fixed before I throw it out the window.

Dfu is gonna be your best bet. You did hold both power and home til it restarted then let go of power and continued to hold home for 20 seconds or so? If dfu won't work the only other thing I can think of is hold home while plugging into computer. That will get u restore mode.

Thanks for your quick response. Yes I held both power and sleep for a variety of different amount of seconds. No matter then length of time the phone does not flash off so I can not get to the step to hold just home button after holding both. I also tried holding just the home button and then connected to iTunes bit it will still not go into restore mode. If o can get it int DFU or restore o will be ok, but nothing I do gets me to that point. I have done all these steps on plenty of other phones. Before and never had this amount of problems. I am loosing hope with this.

Then I'm going to say one of your buttons dont work. By holding power and home for like 10 seconds it should always flash off unless one of the buttons is bad. Have you tried letting it completely die holding home before then plugging in to iTunes and hold home until it boots?

Recovery mode is easier to get into than DFU. It would be beneficial to do so.

If you haven't had success with recovery mode, I'd suggest doing it over and over until it works. Like A3GOwner said, it also might be that one of the buttons is broken. In that case it's probably not likely to be resolved.

In the state that the device is in, I can't imagine being able to force it into recovery mode with any software/program either. So just keep trying to put it into recovery mode. Here's how I help my friends do so:

When the phone is on, hold home and power. The screen will go black then show the apple logo. When you see the apple logo release the power button and keep holding home. You've succeeded when you see the USB+iTunes screen.

My friend yesterday had to try 10 or 20 times consecutively to get this to work. So do this process over and over until it works. Don't try putting it into DFU one moment then recovery the next, stick to this process and only this.

If it continues to fail, unfortunately then you cannot fix it.
