    Default iPhone3GS "no wifi" ?

I recently got an iPhone 3GS from my friend and for some reason when I try to turn the wifi on it is shaded in and says "No Wi-Fi".

This phone is straight out of the box...it doesn't have a plan I just want to use it as an iPod. Anyone know how to fix this?

    I'm running on 4.2.1....

Try a clean restore? If it is restored and set up as new and the wifi is stille greyed out, it's likely a hardware failure

Restore won't work, I had that problem. I think it may be a hardware problem.

I restored it and nothing helped. Ended up needing to SSH into the iPhone to get ultrasn0w working.

Well thats why you try the restore, then if that fails you know for sure it's hardware related

Some people have had success with just a clean restore. I have had this happen before and a restore resolved the greyed out wifi. But it's different for everyone.

Well I'm sending the phone into apple cuz the power button has stopped working...maybe the new one will be ready to go

    *edit*

Just a thought...what if the iPhone I receive has the same issue? Send it into apple again? Will there be a fix for this issue?

If the phone is under warranty apple will replace it.

No wifi is a fixable problem though.
    Need to reflow the chip!
