best way to erase all personal data and keep jailbreak/unlock?

i cant find a definitive answer anywhere. i am trying to sell a 3GS and 3G. both are jailbroken and unlocked on 4.2.1 fw and 06.15 bb. i need all of the personal data removed before selling. how should i go about doing this? please help thankyou.

The very best way, (your not going to want to hear this) is to restore, re-jailbreak/unlock, then sell.

no thats fine. i just dont want to lose my unlocking capabilities. so when i go to restore in itunes, should i put the phone in DFU mode first? should i create a custom IPSW first? i just dont know what the correct process is.

because last night i had a ton of trouble with my 3GS when i just help shift and restored with a stock 4.2.1 IPSW. i dont know if its because i have the 06.15 ipad baseband..? but i eventually had to downgrade to 4.0 and it took me HOURS to figure out how to do it.

Since you are on 6.15.00 baseband you cannot just shift-restore to a stock firmware you need to make a custom firmware IPSW and shift-restore using that.

You can make your own custom firmware using Sn0wbreeze (Windows) or PwnageTool (Mac), or you can just find a custom firmware off Google and shift-restore using that.

Make sure its a 4.2.1 firmware

should i use snowbreeze to jailbreak it too? or should i use redsnow after snowbreeze makes the custom ipsw?

If you used sn0wbreeze your iPhone should be already jail broken, no need to use Redsn0w after.
