Battery Drain on 3GS/sn0wbreeze
Basically I've had this 3Gs for over a year now. It's battery usually lasted well, but now it's absolutely horrid. I can only talk on the phone for maybe 30 minutes to an hour at 100 percent battery and it will get pretty close to 0. It also gets extremely hot to the point I hang up only because it's beginning to hurt my ear. You can play games maybe an hour max, etc.
First this iPhone was jailbroken with Greenpoison but that drained the battery as well. I tried snowbreeze but I receieved the same problem. I do not have many Cydia apps, just the usual SBSettings, Winterboard, etc.
It's passed the 1 year warranty, do you think if I take it to Apple they'll still replace it if they realize there is a problem?

Dear seanlh,
got a problem with your battery....? It will happen sometime after you Jailbreak your phone. The resone is.
The iPhone using location services and the push notification. and when you are going for Jailbreak some Jailbreak softwares will sweep out your all push notification certificates. If you have activated your iPhone through an unauthorized carrier (aka hacktivation) on iPhone 3.x, then your Push Notifications functionality in most cases will be broken. Even if you have tried getting it to work through “PushFix” via iPhoneil available in Cydia, it wont work as that fix uses a single shared certificate for all users who have installed it. This causes battery drainage and huge use of cellular data access.
But dont worry I am goin to tell you how to fix that.
1. Start Cydia and then add http://cmdshft.ipwn.me/apt/ repo in the Cydia sources
Step 2: Once the repo has been added, simply search for “Push Doctor” app in Cydia and install it.
Step 3: Reboot your iPhone.
Step 4: That’s it! Give your iPhone another HardBoot. And Enjoy last longing Battery again.
P.S. Keep in mind that http://cmdshft.ipwn.me/apt/ generating one certificate every minute and its grabbed by a user every minute. So if you are getting an error aquiring a certificate assume that you are probably in the queue and keep on trying. Once you will patch your phone with all random repository certificates. Inshallah your phone will get back to the shape you want to see it.
Take care of you and your phone.Last edited by littlefoot; 03-23-2011 at 01:39 AM.

I tried what you said to no avail, but my iPhone is not hacktivated, so by the way you describe it, I should not have to do that. Thanks for your help.
Also, about the battery question, can I take it to the Apple store w/o a warranty and will they accept it?
Thanks for your help littlefoot.

Even within warranty period, Apple won't help u for battery problems. First u can install "BatteryDetective" app from Cydia, this will give u the lifetime "full cycle" charges count. If it's over 500, look into replacing ur battery. With a $5.00 battery from eBay & YouTube video instructions, only if ur good at electronics assembly/repair. If ur not confident repairing it urself, use ur local classifieds to find a "STOREFRONT" business to repair. If ur under 500 full cycle charges, u should turn off "push" email, don't allow apps to use ur location unless necessary, reset location warnings afterwards, turn brightness down to as low as acceptable. Also apps like "ScreenDimmer" will help but if ur above 500 charges, replacement is best. Also eBay has inexpensive juicepaks called "Blue Storm" 1800mAh juicepaks, for around $20 each. U can order a couple of them & a new battery on eBay for a cheap price. I also own 3 iPhones, 1 iPhone 4 & 2 3GS'. I let each of them have a break by powering 1 off, for a day & using the other 2 like a big dork, with one in each pocket. I tether one off the other with MyWi on demand, so I can listen to 2 different radio stations at once. With 2 different necklace type dog tag bluetooths, I plug the right speaker in right ear from one & left speaker from the other, so it appears as though I'm wearing one set of headphones. iPhone 4's are dropping in prices, even more when the 5 comes out. If u can afford to, buy another to give them breaks by resting each with power off. Good luck with wtvr u choose & don't listen to all the suggestions from battery apps that tell u to turn everything off. Just lower brightness, use ScreenDimmer, turn off push email, reset location warnings when done & set cookies to "Never" unless u need them on for a site. Clear the cookies, cache & history as often as u like. Respring & reboot often, also helps. Also "MultiCleaner" app from Cydia allows u to kill all apps at once, even has a toggle for SBSettings. There's also "ResetSafari" so with SBSettings u can use "processes" to free up memory, "reset safari" with toggle & "quit apps" with toggle. I do that 20 times a day, along with respring & reboot at least once a day.

Thanks will do. Apparently when I changed chargers to the default apple one at a different outlet, I got much longer battery life. Stupid gigaware technology, would make my iPhone run out super fast. Thanks a lot guys.
