PC HDD wiped, dont want to lose contacts on iphone

Ok so my iphone 3g is jailbroken and my laptop's hard drive got wiped because HP need to repair it. Anyway, I'm afraid of losing my contacts if I connect it to my computer now. I don't care about losing the songs on the phone because I contacted apple and managed to let them redownload all my purchased songs.

So the question is: If I connect my iPhone to my recently wiped laptop with no backups of the phone on it, will I lose all my contacts?

Shouldnt. It should do a backup first anyway. To make sure right click the iPhone icon in the left pane & hit backup so it doesn't sync but just does a backup.
