Default Really Struggling with Tiny Umbrella...Any suggestions

    Hi all,

Well, I finally got TinyUmbrella almost working. I went though the whole process, got into DFU mode, hit Recovery in TU.

Without even running green pois0n, (or even having it on my computer) my iPhone started the green pois0n process - it's how I JB my iphone before. It went through the first 4 lines of the process. The last one said "initializing Green PoisOn"

    Then the darn phone froze.

I was able to restore it to 4.3, but I spent my whole day missing my JB iphone. Needed My3g, MyWifi, and I miss my themes.

    Any thoughts?

If your files are saved thru TU, they're on Saurik's server as well I believe. Forget TU and set your hosts to Cydia. Last line of your hosts should read

"74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com" without the quotes. There should be no other gs.apple.com line above or below it either (delete it if there is).

Once your hosts are set to cydia and saved, you can point iTunes to 4.2.1 and restore and it will work fine. I'm not a fan of TU at all. Used to be awesome but since FW 4.1 was released, its mostly worthless.

Can you please help me, I'm so confused trying to get this all straight and know what to do. I've spend hours on this and it's a pain and I'm nowhere.

So help me understand the process here. Is this correct? (I have a mac)

    (1) Download the firmware I want. In this case the 4.2.1
    (2) Change my host file - I've have figured out how to do that, but I'm not exactly sure what it should say. Can you please, please, please post a screen shot of how the host file should look exactly after it's modded.
    (3) Put my phone in DFU mode
    (4) Restore the phone using 4.2.1
    (5) Phone should be restored to 4.2.1 with no other steps needed.
    (6) Jailbreak it then.

    Is that correct?

    Thanks so much!!!

    Someone please. please please

    Thank you so much.

The issue is I get stuck at this damn 1013 error message and I've tried Tiny Umbrella and I can not get out of recovery mode. So, JDM.accord seems to have another way and I'm looking for that.

Once you get the 1013 error close iTunes. Put the phone into DFU mode
and run the latest version of Greenp0ison to jailbreak

it'll kick it out of recovery and jailbreak at the same time. Thats what I did when I downgraded from 4.3 to 4.2.1

I had the same 1013 problem.

And I did miss my jailbreak too...I was only at 4.3 for a couple of hours

*edit: I forgot to mention in iTunes use shift/restore (option/restore for Mac) to 4.2.1 apple FW then proceed with above after it 1013 errors

Thanks! I actually tried that. I found this link. The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella: Prevent iPhone4 Baseband Update

And I got the 4.2.1 firmware - yeah! BUT, Cydia was NOT installed on my iphone. Tried jail breaking again and it failed. I think I need to do the whole process again and might finally get it. Getting closer however. Need to go to bed will try in the morning.

But here is what I'm wondering. To restore my iphone because I had 4.2.1 on it, iTunes would NOT restore my iphone settings and it said I had to set up the phone as a new phone. Well, I don't want to loose my game progress. I know I can back up my games if I'm jail broken, but I'm not right now - and this was not my fault Springtomize crashed my iphone when I installed it (evil, evil program).

Anyhoo....does Game Center save your progress or is there some other way to do that with a non broken iphone.

I have all the gold stars in Angry Birds but 3 and I'm not sure what I want more if I have to choose, my jail broken iphone or my angry bird stars. Ahhhh.....deep breath, at least I don't live near a leaking nuclear reactor in Japan.....perspective.

Hopefully I can have both though.

    Thank you for responding.

Here are my hosts (set to Cydia). Just focus on the last line, nothing else.

Set them up like this and then use pwnage to create custom FW and option/restore to that in iTunes and you'll have Cydia. If you're using windows, try GP until it takes (sometimes takes a few tries which is why pwnage is better

Greenp0ison will not install Cydia directly, it'll install an App (program) called "Loader"

The "Loader" App installs Cydia. It'll be located on the second page of your phone....

I forgot to mention in my small "tutorial" above theat the very first thing you do is open Tiny Umbrella and START THE TSS SERVER

I know its a big step...it was late...

*EDIT: If you were on 4.3 without custom Firmware or the Baseband Prevention method....your stuck with the 4.3 Baseband
(like I Am) there is no way to downgrade the BB...just the FirmWare..

To OP, this is off-topic at this point BUT the same thing has happened to my friend and I in regards to trying to Restore and then GP showing up. In fact, GP acts like a tethered JB until you rerun it again. Host files, exiting Recovery Mode, Windows, Mac, etc. doesn't fix the problem UNTIL you rerun GP...

I find this interesting and a bit concerning...

    Hi all,

Been really busy, but finally got sometime tonight to try this and it worked. Thanks goodness. THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO HELPED. So happy!

For those of you struggle with the same thing, once you get the error message 1013, use green pois0n to kick it out of restore mode. No need to use Tiny Umbrella at all.

ETA: Do I need to remove 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com from my host file now that I have the 4.2.1 working well.

    Thanks
