Can restore iphone from my mac - please help. :)
Hi all!
I have an iphone 4. I have a Mac with the latest OS.
Last night my iphone crashed due to a bad program from Cydia. So, I went to restore it. But alas apple has upgraded to the none jailbroken 4.3.
So, I have SHSH blobs, and tried using Tiny umbrella which I could not get to work. So, then decided, I'll just upgrade to 4.3 and wait (hopefully not to long) for the jailbreak. I removed Tiny Umbrella before I tried.
I then try to restore my iphone and I keep getting this error message "device is not eligible for requested build" Try a ton of times. Then, go to the genius bar this morning and they get it the phone to restore on their computer, but did not have time to figure out what was wrong with my computer. And that was fine, because I clearly screwed something up by using tiny Umbrella I assume.
So, I did look and looks like my "Host" file has been modified (by Tiny Umbrella I assume?!?!) And there is now a Tiny Umbrella host file (which I trashed actually about 5 min ago). I'm pretty over my head here. I don't really know what host file is, but I did read about it on looked at it.
What do I need to do to get this system working again. Install the default host file? Anything else?
Thanks so much. I hope this is enough detail.
Cheers!Last edited by galaxygrrl; 03-13-2011 at 12:47 PM.

Are you manually dropping the ipsw or just hitting the restore key?

I tried both. Neither worked. It looks like my host file has been changed. This is what is says now.
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhost
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
#127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
I think that end ip address is sending something to Cydia's servers. But this could be totally wrong too.
I think I need the default host file, but not sure how to get a copy.
Thanks

Wow, well this ended up being a time consuming little project. Nothing was working. So, I tried to reinstall itunes, that did not work, then, I reinstalled leopard and that did not work. Then, finally (which I should have done first), took the host file from my time capsule and got it back to the default and that seemed to solve the problem. Now I'm on 4.3.
I have the SHSH blob for my computer for 4.1 (or maybe 4.0.1) but I'm scared to try anything.
Is there really good directions somewhere for how to make downgrading work.
Thanks

You know, I got it working on 4.3 and then I tried Tiny Umbrella again and it's bricked again. Error message 1161 (which there seems to be very little on the web about).
Going to the geniuses again tomorrow.
Guess i need to wait for a 4.3 jailbreak tool.
Thanks for your help.
