I purchased a cosmetic damage refurbish iPhone 3Gs. The back cover says iPhone but no serial number or imei number is displayed. The weirdest part is that it does not state the storage size on back either.
At first I thought this was because it was refurbish product. But my friend who owns an iPhone 4 he purchased on launch day has the same back. No imei , serial or storage capacity displayed.
Can anyone explain why some phones come like this?
My brothers iPhone 3Gs displays the imei, serial and 32GB on the back.
Edit: my iPhones have never displayed IMEI or serial on the back of the phone though... Just says iPhone (on iPhone 4). On my 3G it said iPhone 8GB then the funky symbols apple puts on the bottom but no serial or IMEI numbers.

No idea but i have seen a few iPhone and never seen IMEI or serial. Buy I did notice any 8GB or 16GB 3G/3GS, the storage size is on the device. But on the iPhone 4 I never had storage size labeled. I had AT&T and those iPhone 4's just said "iPhone" with the FC labels and now I have Verizon which it only says "iPhone."
I'm not sure about the other devices but all I know is the iPhone 4'a from both GSM and CDMA versions only say "iPhone" and no storage size noted or anything besides FCC labels for GSM.
Should double check on 3GS (the new ones) like maybe at AT&T or something. Maybe their display phones are like that. Maybe not.
Iphone 4 isn't supposed to show anything except iPhone. And the 2 lines and weird symbols at the bottom. Newer devices don't show the size anymore. Not sure why though.
