Issues Restoring iPhone 4 w/ Saved SHSH - error 1013
my iPhone 4 was working fine I was just trying to restore it, thinking I knew how to erase all my data...
I got a brand new iPhone 4 a couple weeks ago hoping the unlock would come much sooner. I am now going to wait it out for the future and sell this one for now as I got help getting my 3G working yesterday.
Here is the situation:
The iPhone 4 was running 4.2.1 which I saved the SHSH using TinyUmbrella v4.21.11 before I ever jailbroke the device. I jailbroke the iPhone using Greenpoisi0n. Everything worker flawlessly.
I decided to restore today, I went to iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download and downloaded the 4.2.1 IPSW for iPhone 4... When I went into iTunes I select restore with the downloaded 4.2.1 (I have tried this using "Start TSS Server" and WITHOUT). As the iPhone "finishes" the restore I am given this error...
"The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1013)."
Is there something I am doing incorrectly in this process? Maybe I am not using the saved SHSH properly? Could someone please give me a little guidance in this process.
I was thinking I should sell it as 4.2.1 versus 4.3 as 4.2.1 may be in higher demand... I am sure I could just restore it factory using 4.3 if it does not matter though.

Have you gone into TU and in advance option unselect point to Cydia's server on exit? Because simply not using TU might still hinder the restore. So unselect that option and try the restore again.

Yes, that option has been unselected.
Is there an area my SHSH's have been stored and I can create an IPSW with them instead of using one from the internet? Or am I misunderstanding the difference between the two?
It's still unsuccessful for me.

Well that's not really how SHSHs work. What SHSHs do you have saved?

In TinyUmbrella v4.21.11:
All Saved SHSHs:
iPhone4 4,2,1 (8C148)-357557853546
iPhone4 4.3b2 (8F5153d)-357557853546
iPhone4 4,3b3 (8F5166b)--357557853546
Is using the option within TU: "Start TSS Server" something that should be selecting when restoring? It seems to close iTunes when I enable it.Last edited by Scmed27; 03-12-2011 at 11:38 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I think Apple may have stopped signing 4.2.1. SHSHs may be needed now. Attempt a restore with TSS server running?
Edit: and yes TU will close iTunes if it is already open so it can redirect to Cydia's server rather than Apple's. Simply leave iTunes closed, run TSS Server, then open iTunes to restoreLast edited by i.Annie; 03-12-2011 at 11:41 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I have tried three different attempts now:
1. TU Closed (UNSELECTED TU pointing to Cydia's Server) -- Used ONLY iTunes + 4.2.1 (NO TSS Server Running)
Error Message Attempt 1: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build." --> Did not even attempt to extract the software.
2. TU Open (SELECTED Set Hosts to Cydia's Server) -- TSS Server Running -- Then Opening iTunes + 4.2.1
Error Message Attempt 2: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1013)." --> iTunes did attempt to extract the software.
3. TU Open (UNSELECTED Set Hosts to Cydia's Server) -- TSS Server Running -- Then Opening iTunes + 4.2.1
Error Message Attempt 3: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1013)." --> iTunes did attempt to extract the software.
This is my status as of now.
Not sure why I was recommended to save the SHSH before I jailbroke originally it does not seem to be worth while?
I may just load 4.3 for simplicity !

I got the same error message. It looks like this is an known issue.
The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella: iOS 4.2.1 signing is really closed
Here is a comment on Twitter. semaphore (notcom) on Twitter
I don't really understand how to fix this from this blog and the comments.
If someone can help me understand what I need to do that would be super. I have my SHSH file.Last edited by galaxygrrl; 03-13-2011 at 01:59 AM.

I ended up doing 4.3... Oddly first attempt failed, then 2nd attempt worked like a charm, I uninstalled TU for the 2nd install just to be sure. Goodluck!

My iPhone totally bricked and I could not get authorization from the apple server to restore my iphone to 4.3. Took off Tiny Umbrella too. Went to the genius bar and the got it to work. Go figure.
When does the jailbreak come out?

I don't need to unlock. I just need to jailbreak. It will be released soon.
My phone was totally bricked, I really had little choice here. It's fine. Phone works.

If your phone is stuck with the 1013 error, your phone was restored. You simply needed to reenter DFU mode while running Tiny Umbrella and click the Fix Recovery button. This reboots the phone, applies the fix and reboots in a usable state. This worked for me several times.

Thanks for the reply, I should have tried that... Hopefully someone else can use the info. I restored using apple factory settings and am just trying to sell the iPhone 4 now... I bought a 3GS that I was able to unlock and now use perfectly!
Trying to shop for a factory unlocked iPhone 4, but them seem to be very scarce! Anyone have any advice on what to look for when I do find one... Such as how to confirm it is factory unlocked? with exception if it has a newer BB and is unlocked I can assume it is.

btson-
Does this work for only users of TU? I saved my SHSH on Cydia only and wasn't able to restore either- so i had to comment out the cydia nameserver in the host file and go with iOS 4.3. I hate this phone now. Very depressing!
I ended up trying it. Does not work.
Ok i got it to work!
Here's what I did. I restored the 4.2.1 iOS via iTunes with the cydia name server in the host file enabled (so it does not go to the actual apple one). About 80% through the restore, i got the 1013 error and the phone restarted on its own and came up in iTunes in recovery. I tried the newest version of TinyUmbrella and used the fix recvoery option..this did NOT work. I then downloaded RecBoot..also did NOT work. I downloaded the 4.21.12 version of TinyUmbrella and did fix recovery...it WORKED! Back to 4.2.1 from 4.3

Error 1013 is a host issue. Easiest way to fix it using Apple signed firmware is to erase the last line of your hosts in your /etc file. That will allow you to restore to Apple signed (only 4.3 as of two days ago) firmware without 1013 popping up.
As far as TU goes, I never use it. Its been junk since iOS4.1 came out. If you have files saved, just set your hosts to cydia in /etc and it works fine.
I restore 25-30 phones a week from saved SHSH and deleted TU months ago it had me so frustrated.

I have problem with my iPhone 4 right now....so fraustrated.
Short story:
I keep getting errors 3194 and 1013 different times when I try to restore my phone...
Long story:
Because I were unable to connect wi-fi on to my router, so I decided to reset network (my phone was jailbreaked on 4.2.1). However, once it rebooted, the apple logo showed up and did not switch to home screen. I have experienced that problem before and I knew how to solve it, so I am not fraustrated by that. However, I think due to the latest version of 4.3, which later found out that Apple rejected all 4.2.1 signings, it showed up the "Error: 3194". I googled and youtubed for solutions for entire day, and finally, without knowing how I really got the errors fixed, my iPhone was restored and updapted from 4.2.1 to 4.3, and my phone was as brand new.
Not for long, I stupidly believing that I can downgrade my iPhone to 4.2.1 on Youtube, and got my phone stucked again. This time is more fraustrated, because no matter how many solutions I tried (including the ones I once fixed my phone), the errors kept showing up, and this time are "Error:3194", and "Error:1013".
Please help me, I have tried nearly every solutions that may or may not be relevant to my problem (ex: TU, host, iREB). I am really fraustrated right now
, thank you guys really much.
