Depending on what email you are trying to set up you can get push notifications with the regular mail app.

Weird. It should work if you have it setup as an exchange account. I have mine setup and it works fine.

It pushes the mail, but it doesn't give you a popup like a text message does.

Aah, ok. Understand now. There may be some apps in the app store that do that. I just did a quick search and found one or two that may. One was called push for gmail.

Elert I think is the name of the Cydia app that gives a nice popup when you get new mail.

Boxcar is another from the AppStore that works great.

I know there is a new one that is suppose to be released in a few weeks that does a nice job of email popup notifications.

I really like lockinfo. It really doesn't work like you described but the infoshade works well for checking emails from other apps or the springboard.

I deleted Elert. It was causing too many problems. The notifications would disappear too quickly, or they would get stuck on the screen and I would have to reboot the phone. It also mysteriously in some very rare cases stopped the space bar and delete key from working.

Haven't had a single issue since I uninstalled it, so I know it was that app or that app interacting with another app.
