Default Help! iPhone 3G is stuck in Recovery Mode

The other day my wife's friend asked me if I could Jailbreak and Unlock an iPhone 3G to work on T-Mobile. So I updated the phone to 4.2.1 in iTunes, Jailbroke and Unlocked the phone using Redsn0w. I used iFile to delete quite a few things since the phone was ridiculously slow. Unfortunately, I managed to delete something I wasn't supposed to in the System/Library/PrivateFrameworks folder. When I restarted the phone it would stick on the Apple logo for about five minutes then shut itself off and try again. iTunes wouldn't recognize it until I put in DFU Mode. I installed the latest version of iTunes then hit Restore. I got an error code 1015 and tried re-installing 4.2.1, then I tried 3.1.3 with no luck. I tried using Jailbreak programs to see if it would help, I retried Redsn0w, RecBoot, Sn0wbreeze, iPhoneExplorer, Tinyumbrella, and iReb all with the same results. I'm at the point were I'm about to buy her a new phone and give up on fixing this iPhone...

I am guessing you installed the ipad baseband then. Just see my sig for help with error 1015.

Yes I did install the iPad Baseband with Resn0w. I'm guessing that this is keeping iTunes from restoring the iPhone.

Thank you for the link, however I don't know if I have SHSH or not, how do I tell?

I managed to get the iPhone working on 3.1.3, I'll have to tell her not to update this iPhone since the older firmware works great on it. Now to Jailbreak and Unlock using Redsn0w. Thank you so much x98car!

Now I have a new problem, I can't Jailbreak the phone using Sn0wbreeze, Greenp0ison, or Redsn0w. Sn0wbreeze and Redsn0w don't recognize the 3.1.3 IPSW I have, so I downloaded another one and of course it doesn't work wither. Greenp0ison doesn't work at all for me. What should I do to Jailbreak and Unlock this phone?

You can use jailbreakme.com or redsnow 0.9.4 to jailbreak 3.1.3. If you use redsnow you need to point it to a 3.1.2 firmware for it to work.

I was curious about the jailbreakme.com and went with it. I originally used Redsn0w to upgrade to the iPad baseband to unlock the phone, since I don't have her sim card for T-Mobile with me I can't test if it works. Is the phone still unlocked or do I need to find a way to unlock it again?

That's awesome! Thank you so much for your help! She's going to be pretty happy, and I'll be happy that I don't have to mess with her phone anymore... One last question, how do I enable user wallpaper's on 3.1.3?

+1. There is no native wallpaper option on that firmware, that's why.

For background wallpaper you need to select user wallpaper. Then choose a wallpaper in settings and respring.

Now for whatever reason Cydia keeps closing as soon as I open it. Epic Fail!

I thought the user wallpaper setting was for the newer ios allowing you to keep your wallpaper when using a theme...

Have you gone into Cydia and downloaded wallpaper themes? Then apply the wallpaper theme. You could use user wallpaper but you would put the image file in that folder and name it appropriately. I can't remember what though, sorry, I haven't been on 3.x in a long time.

Or that lol. I'm so rusty with older firmwares.

Ya, user wallpaper just let whatever wallpaper you picked in settings be your springboard wallpaper.

Thanks for the help on wallpapers, I feel stupid for not figuring that one out. Any hints as to why Cydia is closing two seconds after I open it?

Might be a jailbreak problem that needs a do-over?

it was working before and I've rebooted it twice. When the phone boots up it has a few multi-colored lines above it, leaving me to think that something isn't completely right. Is there a safe way to put the phone on a better iOS? Also, you can only choose a wallpaper, not a lock screen and a background but it works and that will make her happy...
