Exclamation Someone Help Me Define: "The Cloud"

    Hello All,
Recently I've been hearing alot about this "Cloud" and it has something to do with wireless syncing. I've done some information, and I was wondering if somebody could tell me what exactly it is, and if somebody could tell me what apps to use, or how to create this cloud, because it sounds fancy and convenient.

    Thanks Much,
    C. Negatory

Well a cloud is a visible mass of water droplets or frozen ice crystals suspended in the Earth's atmosphere above the surface of the Earth or other planetary body.

You cannot really create clouds that would takes thousands of dollars and years of research. I don't understand how a cloud would be convient.

Well, it would probably be more convenient and useful having the power to control the weather than jumping around the forums being a smartass and being no use.

Its a buzz word for "The Internet"

Its like calling a Hamburger an ANgus Beef Patty

The cloud refers to the storing and sharing of information between several users, members and or Computers. This may include sharing of applications as well.

This was also what the internet was invented for but Cloud computing is a Cool way to define it to some people, to me its just silly.

It just means keeping all the software server side. So your pc is not using it's memory rather the Internet to access all your content.

Well this is part of it but not the whole ball of wax,

A game like war craft you cannot just find the web site and log on you still need software to play.

While in some cases the software can be web based its not true with all.

Collaboration is where businesses use the idea of "Cloud Computing" (Choke...er internet)

I honestly think it has little to do with memory and more with Collaboration and in some ways cost.

Photoshop costs hundreds of dollars, what if you were to pay like $25 a year for web based access to the tools?
It worked liked a charm and if you work for an AD agency then you can have 2 others join in on the work and working together, then Photoshop has an update with awesome features, you then have the update instant and can use it at no additional cost.

    Cloud ( internet )

I've been talking about this for awhile since I heard "Cloud" its not new

    Here:

Cloud computing is very topical these days. If one did not know any better, one might think that the “Cloud” is a new concept, employing only the most cutting edge technologies.

In reality, computing in the Cloud is just another way to talk about any web-based solution aka Software as a Service (SaaS). I am sure we have all used some type of SaaS application in our lives be it Facebook, LinkedIn, or some other application to enhance our personal or business lives. So, Cloud computing is not new, but do you know where one of the first instances of its use was? Read on to find out.

Conceptually, an earlier form of Cloud computing would be the old Centrex telephone services idea developed in the 60′s and deployed in the 70′s. Centrex eliminated the need for a company to own and service its own PBX (private branch exchange) telephone switch on premises. All telephone services were provided via remote access to the telephone companies through existing phone lines, using ordinary touch tone phone handsets; special codes were entered via the touch tone key pads to access voicemail, conference calling, call forwarding, etc. Centrex services eventually died out due to a lack of telephone company infrastructure/bandwidth needed to provide these services via the Centrex model. Today, bandwidth is not an issue, other than in extreme cases, so the “Cloud” is back. And it’s moved way beyond telephony; can you say Internet?

Because many of you were born after 1975 you think the world may have started then, some things are not new, I was born in the 60's before color TV, before we had PC's ( used a 4mhz home PC in the day then moved up to programing a 08086 wow, its why I'm not a MAC no one could program them, Apple did not let us back then )
