Default getting around a passcode lock?

i work in a store location and a customer washed her iphone 3Gs, appeared to be dead. she bought a new one and left hers with us as likely trash. we left it to dry out a few days and see what we had. it powered on and required a connection to itunes as it was in recovery mode. after it looks to have settled itself we want to run some tests and see what parts may be able to be harvested. it comes on with a passcode lock and so far the sleep wake button does not work. the data on the device is of no consequence so a restore or a recovery is okay but i cannot seem to get it into recovery mode without it. itunes recognizes the device and asks for the passcode when connected. again this is not an iphone of mine, but one that was donated to the repair facility in our store, so my itunes will not automatically recognize this device to forego the passcode.

    any ideas?

not worth it a phone that has been wet like that, is toast, Water acts like acid on the live circuits of an Iphone.

Call the customer and offer her phone back or put it in the garbage. What's the name of this store, " shady enterprises"?

He said she left hers, She didn't want it, but an Iphone that has been in the water should never be "Fixed" and resold, its not ethical.

I think most people do not understand that water kills electronics when they were powered, the ionization from the powered circuits along with the corrosives of the water destroys the circuits.

Does this to cars as well. A car that is submerged is toast.

My apologies, I only read the OP's post, I didn't speak to them in person.

In their post it said the woman was under the impression the phone was dead so she bought a new one. After she left they got it working. I never said anything about selling the phone, not sure where that came in to this? If the OP thought the woman wouldn't want her phone back now that it is working, why not just call her and ask her for the passcode?

You think most people don't understand that water kills electronics? Seems to me that more people don't realize water is actually an electrical insulator, not a conductor.

I still have a 3g that was dropped in water 2 years ago, I use it as an ipod and a backup phone.

As far as flood cars being toast that is completely situational. I have sunk my jeep CJ on several occasions and after a good hosing down and oil/gas change its just fine.
