Lost iPhone4 advice needed

End of last year my brand new iP4 bounced out of the top of my bicycle's pannier bag.

I discovered this within an hour and phoned it from work- went straight to voicemail. I assumed that the phone was destroyed, run over. I phoned my carrier (Telecom, Australia) and they did something that I can't quite recall with my phone a/c. ?Locked or disconnected?, dunno.

Back then I was waiting for iOS4.2 to be jailbroken, so I was still on 4.1, ie no MobileMe tracking options.

Being the iPhone fan boy I am I bought a new one outright from the Apple Store= sanity returned.

Recently I wondered whether the phone was really destroyed. I rarely password lock the phone, so if someone found it they could have simply turned it off.

So finally my question. If I get the IMIE number, and assuming the new owner has loaded iOS4.2.1, can i use MobileMe or similar to find if the phone is alive & it's location?

No, If they restored it then it wouldnt have your mobileme information on it anymore so you wouldnt be able to connect to it.
