Just bought a new Iphone 4 16 GB, has sim card but is stuck in recovery mode.

i plugged it to my computer and it says i need to upgrade to itunes 10.1.2

should I?

i want to jail break it, and this is my first iphone what should i do?

really someone on another forum told me not to or it would update my os to 4.2 or something.

also after i update the itunes, i can stop it from updating my iphone to 4.2 right? I can jailbreak it right?

ITunes won't update your iPhone unless you allow it to. Who ever told you that don't know what their doing. But anyway your iPhone isn't activated even if you have the sim card. In I tunes you need to activate the iPhone. Not sure what firmware your on but if you plan on unlocking you have to have baseband of 1.59.00 since you have the i4. But anyway you can use greenpois0n to jailbreak and by pass the activation screen but you'll have a iPod touch if your not with AT@T. Good luck

So what is this baseband 1.59.00? Im new to this, also I want to use my t mobile service on my iphone, so I was thinking of unlocking it and taking it to the t mobile store to get a sim card there. For the most part though I want to get cydia and download all the cool apps on here.

So your saying i have to activate the iphone via itunes then I can jailbreak it with greenpoison or Snowstorm?
