    Default Completely Broken Phone

:S I don't understand what happened, but after spending the night at a friend's house where I forgot my iphone 3G. Today he returns my iphone and it is crazy. He says he didn't do anything to it, but it gave me the white screen of death. He is a very good friend and I don't think he was lying. He said he plugged it in to charge on a regular charger he uses and nothing happened. It wouldn't give me option to restore and wouldn't turn on and didn't respond to manual attempts to reset it.

I though that maybe it was a screen issue (wires coming off the logic board)so I opened it up and reattached them. Turned it on and now the screen is flashing random shades of gray with black lines down the screen in random places. What could be wrong and is there a way to fix this? (It is old but I really like it and want to fix it). I don't think the screen is to blame.

    Thank you!

I don't think so. I got a completely broken iphone from my friend a while back. That LCD is half broken so I put the LCD into this phone to try it out. Nothing happened when usually it would :S. New news. It made the charging sound when connecting to the computer and prompted me to give the password on the computer but the screen is dead so I can't enter it. Can I force restore it somehow?

I also need to mention that I don't have the original computer it is synced to working at the moment either (for other reasons). What options do I have?

Actually. I re-reconsider. You are right. It is the screen. I just installed the broken screen and it powered on and gave part of a battery logo. This is still not good. What could be wrong with it?

You can try to blindly put it in recovery and restore it to see if you can get any images on the screen. It still sounds like a LCD issue to me though.

I agree. Can I fix LCD without replacing it?

Not that I know of. Everytime I have come across an issue like this I had to replace it.

Ohhh. Is this a typical problem experienced by iPhones? Do you know what causes it? I take it reconnecting it multiple times won't help, right? :P

I will buy this to replace the screen then:

I wouldn't say it's overly common, but it does happen.
