Default How to backup/restore individual apps?

Does anyone know if it is possible to backup/restore individual apps? I'm not looking for jailbreak apps though. I've never gotten a regular backup/restore to work with any iPhone. When I restore, I get my iOS settings back, but then have to reinstall all apps and I lose my place in games. I don't really care about much else, but I'm so close to 3-stars on Angry Birds.

Anyway, I am jailbroken on 4.1 on my iPhone 4. I'm solid with UNIX, so using ssh to jump on and tar up individual files is fine if copying them back will work. I'm just not sure how to tell which files to backup.

in itunes right click on your phone in the list on the left & click backup...Once youve restored your phone right click again on the restore from backup & select the one you made...Write down the time & date of your backup tho cause their could be a lot to choose from..

Also when in itunes highlight your phone & click on apps in there you can select which apps you want to sync..

if this is totally wrong Im sorry Ive never clearly figured it out either but this is the way I do it & it seems to work..lol You may need appbackup & or aptbackup installed on your phone as well..

I've done that, but I'm looking to see if anyone knows where settings and such would be kept for an app. For example, I have Virtual City on my phone. I think I found the files under /private/var/mobile/Applications/8A4356A3-3EAC-4B65-8828-05B25CEC3842/Documents/Virtual City iPhone/Profile_0, but I don't have another jailbroken phone to see what would happen if I drop the files on there.

i had appbackup and it was ok. that was one of the apps i forgot about when i updated and rejailbroke and later found i was carrying a ton of old backups on my filesystem forever.

so far the iphone backup extract and iexplorer is working perfectly. i've stripped it way down (only got 80 apps now, hehe) and only restored the specific files i wanted. tested the games and such that i restored and it is perfect.
