Default What's The Baseband That Comes With iOS 4.1?

A friend of mine just asked me to update her iPhone. We need the unlock, so I need to know the baseband version that comes with iOS 4.1. Also if it's unlockable.

    Thanks in advance!

5.14.02 comes with 4.1. It's currently not unlockable. 5.13.04 and lower are currently the only unlockable basebands (not including the iPad baseband).

dotFIVE didn't mention that baseband versions differ between iPhones, 2G, 3G & 3Gs all use the same baseband whereas the 4 uses a different one.

The OP states that it is a friend's iPhone which is to be updated but didn't specify which model it is, therefore without that knowledge the link that I provided could be of more use.

Whoops, my biggest apologies for forgetting that important piece of information. It's a 3G.

Then dotFIVE's information is correct. However, Apple has a software SHSH check on 3G firmwares, so you might encounter difficulties in updating to a not-current FW.

That page is pretty overwhelming in itself; a whole lot of information when you just need the baseband. I just summed it up for the OP. Usually if someone has an iPhone 4, they'll mention it. Yes, my fault for assuming, but it proved correct anyways.

Uhm that's a BIG problem. I don't want to (attempt to) update FW 4.2.1 using the iPad Baseband, because I did that to my own 3G, and it gave me hell for three days, until I managed to restore it to iOS 4.1 by bypassing restore screens and such.

What kind of problems could I possibly encounter? dealing with the -1015 was really an awful experience.

From what I have just read [here], the 1015 error is the no-shsh error, all that you need to do is download TinyUmbrella, and use that to kick the device out of recovery.

It is possible to upgrade to 4.2.1 without touching the baseband by using sn0wbreeze 2.2 (windows) [link] or pwnagetool (Mac) [link].

iPhone 3G does not require SHSHs to restore to 3.1.3 and below. So if you ever get stuck without SHSHs, that's the way to go

The only way to unlock a device on 4.1 is to upgrade the baseband to the iPad baseband so that's just something you have to deal with if unlocking is absolutely necessary at the current moment. Don't try it if it's an iPhone 4 though, that's bad stuff.

Edit: preserving the baseband to go up to 4.2.1 is not a bad idea. If the baseband is currently unlockable, a custom 4.2.1 fw will preserve it and disregard the need for the iPad baseband upgrade.

I took care of it. Restored keeping the baseband using Sn0wbreeze and the process went smoothly (just note: I had to do it in restore mode rather than DFU in case you have problems). And it looks like it worked, thought that didn't fix a Wi-Fi issue she has been having...

    Ah well.

Thanks a bunch to all for your help! I really appreciate it .
