HELP - Need to restore 3Gs from older itunes backup

I am pulling my hair out!!!

I backed everything up my 3Gs this afternoon on my Vista laptop and wanted to wipe the phone and start fresh as I've been having some software issues with the phone. However, when I went to restore the phone, I didn't realize someone (probably my toddler) had unplugged my power cord at the other end. So just as the phone was beginning the restore portion (after it had reinstalled the OS), my laptop went to standby. I didn't think much of it, and just plugged it back in and turned it on.

The problem is that it then recognized my working phone and created a new backup!!! NOW I'VE LOST ALL OF MY DATA FROM THE PAST 3 YEARS!!

I tried a system restore to see if that would bring back the old backup point, but no luck. It only sees the "backup" from 11pm tonight and not the one from 4pm.

IS THERE ANY WAY TO SALVAGE AN OLDER BACKUP THAN THE MOST RECENT ONE? I remember my older versions of itunes would ask me which one I wanted to restore and show me the last 5-10 backups. What happened?!?!? How can I get everything back?

try restoring from this new backup, maybe it is the old backup in disguise

I tried...it's not. And the folder size is too small.

This also means I've lost all my pictures, movies, txt, etc.
