Hi, I have a 3G, not jailbroken and updated to 4.2.1 - I have been using this phone for some time and it is backed up through iTunes.

I also have a 3GS jailbroken on 4.1 and I want to use this as my main phone.

Connecting in iTunes I can restore my 3G to backups inc. the 3GS but when connecting the 3GS my current phone is not listed as a restore option.

Is this because the software is of too low a build version to cope?

How can I copy some of my old settings across to the 3GS?

In particular I would like to have my:
Contacts
Old SMS
App layout (lazy not essential)
App user data (not essential but things like passwords would be useful)
Mail settings
Phone settings like ringtones etc
Map bookmarks and recent places

Can I move some of the encoded files from one backup folder to the new one under MobileSync/Backup? If so, would I need to rename the file to existing name? Or would this totally screw things up?

The 3GS is much faster, is this because it is a clean phone without user data clogging up the processor or will it always remain much faster?
