Default Proximity sensor stuck during phone call.

    Hey everyone
I noticed today that whenever I'm on a phone call, my iPhone screen will lock because the proximity sensor is being covered by my face. However, when I move the iPhone away from my face and have the proximity sensor free from being activated, my screen stays black. This is very annoying and makes things very difficult since I'm forced to use speaker phone if I need to use the keypad while on a call. Plus since my screen is completely off and unresponsive I have to use the sleep button to end the call. After the call ends I can lock the iPhone and unlock it back to the home screen. I have tried rebooting/respringing but don't want to go through the process of restoring just yet since I want to see where the root of this problem is.

I'm currently running iOS4.2.1 on an iPhone 4 on att. I Jailbroke it two days ago with greenpois0n. I don't believe I downloaded a broken cydia app since I didnt download any new packages today so I dont think the problem is coming from anything jailbreak related, although my phone has been going into safe mode a lot.
It may also be helpful to say that I just got a new (refurbished) iPhone 4 from the apple store last Saturday because I had some call quality problems where either I heard plenty of static on my end or the microphone went out on me during a call.

Also (may as well kill 2 birds with one stone) I'm having problems with bitesms 5.1. it seems that when I get a message, my screen doesn't light up automatically and I have to press the home button to show it. And the Libactivator settings don't seem to work properly either such as when wanting to expose the quicklist.

So sorry for the long post of my iPhone problems but I did search around and haven't found anything to help me solve these issues. I hope I don't have to go to Apple again so I wanted to share this with the REAL geniuses of Apple before I did that again.

ANY AND ALL HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!
    THANKS HOMIES!

*****Just read somewhere that Activator is having some gesture problems on iOS 4.2.1 so I guess I'll be dealing with that until an update is made.*****

I'm having the same exact problem. I uninstalled the last 2 jb apps that I figured might have been the culprit but the problem persists. Perhaps their damage can't be repaired without a restore. All I know is, THIS is why Rock was superior to Cydia. That community would take the time to leave feedback in the reviews on apps that could potentially cause damage. With cydia I feel like I'm driving blind.

The one possible fix (even thought it sort of sucks) is an app called 'calllock'. It'll basically disable the proximity sensor and send it into the lock screen when you're on a call. You'l need to unlock it each time but at least you won't have to deal with hard resetting it each time it freezes up.

Hopefully someone has a better solution.

Yea having a review section in cydia would be awesome. Hopefully since cydia bought out rock that might be more possible than we think. And thanks for that info about That app but I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and go for the restore. I'll let u know what happens.

So I just restored my phone to factory settings and I'm getting the same problem. Ugh, looks like I have another trip to the apple store in my near future.

Did you restore from a recent backup? If so, you may have absorbed some JB stuff. I returned 3 iphones before realizing I had done that. In short, you have to start over from scratch (don't restore from a backup) in order to make sure there are no remnants of the JB leftover.

Since that clearly sucks... I think you should reconsider the calllock app. I'm actually ok with it. In fact, in addition to solving my proximity problem, it's actually rather valuable to have as I was constantly pressing the mute button with my cheek when talking to people. As long as you don't have a passcode, it's easy enough to unlock and get to where you need to go. (especially if you have tap to unlock) so maybe that's worth another look. just make sure the only option you select is 'proximity'. Good luck.

I am having the same problem but I found an odd fix. I Downloaded calllock from Cydia but it was still going blank and not turning back on once it goes out. So I went into activator (from cydia of course) and changed my lock button behavior for double clicking to unlock my device and now it works normally (well it goes to the lockscreen when I get a call, so it's functional now anyway.
