Why do we not have a Untethered JB 4.2?

This has been a heated topic in the news section but its hijacked the thread..........

Simply I have an Iphone 3gs and 3g

both are JB on 4.1 but the 3g cydia is messed up.

I would like to upgrade to 4.2 but do not want to until the promised JB for 4.2 untethered is out, where is it?

The other day I read where the Dev team may "Hold Back" the JB

I got pretty mad and posted so

It was promised by Christmas, its now Feb 2011

There seem to be a lot of people who feel the need to defend the Dev team even though I'm just asking for the Jb and saying I'm mad.

Yea as do a lot of us. I think however it is important to remember that these guys hacking code to find exploits for a jb are doing this on their own. First they don't owe us anything and dont have to do this. Frankly if it was up to apple all if them would be sued. Just be patient it will come.

Agree it sucks not having it, but like the others said these guys aren't paid to do this. You can be pissed at apple if deadlines are missed on products we really have no right to be upset over not having a jailbreak. The only people allowed to be mad our the ones smart enough to find & develop these hacks.

Money: Either by apps they can sell on Cydia or money they will be offered by other jobs after they have proved how good they are doing JB

Fame: itself, look we know a lot and praise them, fame is like a drug.

To answer the thread question, it's likely held back for good reason. If you feel you need to be mad, be mad at Verizon

With the new release it is likely the devs want to hold back to experiment with Verizon iPhone. Also, the current iPhone users will probably funk up and upgrade to 4.3 when released. They intend to unlock (for iPhone 4 but not sure for the other devices) for 4.3 therefor they don't want to release the jb exploit before then. If they release it now, theyll have to find a new jb exploit all over again. This then means unlocking would be useless bc no jb is available. So if they release at 4.3, people can simply upgrade, jailbreak, and unlock.

Why question them? They owe us absolutely nothing. Run a stock firmware if you are not patient enough to live by their schedule and then come back and start a thread about how awesome it is to have a jailbreak, for free, at all.

I think this thread should actually be closed I was involved in the other thread he was talking about and no matter how much people tried to help him, or explain what has benn said in this thread, he would always come back with its to hard make it easy or it was promised..... yadyyadyyah... its a dying argument. I guess some people just think the world is owed to them. I would like to see what he says when the devs just quit and there are no more jailbreaks because people demand it from them or badmouth them (yet again the badmouth part is not directed at the thread poster). he is arguing for the sake of arguing which is why instead of taking the help and leaving out the coments about it being promissed and how people are shutting down his freedom to be mad and express it for something that is free to him, he started another thread. That is also why he finds excuses as to why he is owed the jailbraik.. IE he pays for cydia apps, and nothing is free, and some of the comments he posted on the fifth post of this thread. I really wasnt going to comment but I'm pretty sick of people complaining or acting like things are owed to them. If you want it so bad learn how to code and contribute that way other wise sit back and enjoy the fact that we even have a jailbreak in the first place. And I will say it once again get over this promised thing. I dont recall it ever being "promised". ETA (ESTIMATED Time Of Arrival), maybe. Implied yes. Sorry for the rant I'm done. :-)

I agree with Ngmead.

No matter how many times I & others told him that his wife's 3G is untethered at 4.2.1 with either redsn0w or PwnageTool 4.1.3, he continues to (wrongly) claim that his wife has a new bootrom iPhone 3G. No amount of posting seems to get him to understand that there is no "new bootrom" for the iPhone 3G.

He also complains about the difficulty of the jailbreak. I'll say this here, the more exploits revealed to jailbreak, the harder it will be in the future to jailbreak. If going in to DFU mode is too difficult for you, it is time to leave the jailbreak scene. If downloading Tiny Umbrella to save your SHSH blobs is too difficult for you, then leave the jailbreak scene.

I'll say it again, Comex never "promised" a jailbreak by Christmas. He told one user that they'd get an untether by Christmas & then followed that up with a tweet that he'd miss that deadline. All the videos you've seen are of the "Monte" jailbreak that is currently being beta tested. With Firmware 4.3 beta 3 being released yesterday it is definitely looking to be a smart move by Comex & the Dev Team to hold back this exploit so that we can ALL enjoy a 4.3 jailbreak sooner rather than later. No offense, but I sense a lot of selfishness in your posts. There are a lot of "I want" "We were promised." What of your own responsibility? Saving SHSH blobs (my 3Gs goes all the way back to 3.0) is a key responsibility of all of us who jailbreak & the sacrifice of occasionally hooking up Tiny Umbrella every so often is trivial at best.

On a side note, Chronic-Dev will be releasing their untether for 4.2.1 because Apple patched the exploit they're using in 4.3 so it makes no sense to hold on to that exploit. Hopefully the new greenpois0n will be "easy" enough for you to use. I'll personally wait for the Dev-Team to incorporate that exploit in to their programs. PwnageTool custom firmware + pwned DFU mode in redsn0w = great success in my opinion. But I know a lot of people don't care where the software comes from, but I appreciate the Dev-Team's ability to really test their software to ensure a minimal amount of bugs.

As I did on the thread in the main page, I will again offer a suggestion for your rebooting phone problems. Next time you have to upgrade, whether that is 4.2.1 or 4.3, I would advise doing a restore and then setting up your phone as new. It requires a bit more set-up but if you're contacts are synced to the cloud (with Google or Yahoo) then getting your phone back up and running doesn't take too long. I use this analogy, when a new operating system comes out, say Windows Vista to Windows 7, every tech person will tell you that doing a format and then installing Windows 7 is the safer, smarter way of doing it. Doing an upgrade will likely have unforeseen problems and will likely carry problems over from the Vista install. In that way I've found iOS to act in the same manner. Installing upgrade after upgrade just seems to pile on the crap until the phones become really unstable. Again, this is just a piece of advice, you can choose to follow it or not, that is up to you.

Lastly, my offer of the custom firmware for your wife's 3G still stands. I have a Custom Firmware that I've used to jailbreak 3 iPhone 3G phones and they're all running great at 4.2.1. The firmware is for official carriers, no multitasking, no home screen wallpaper, and battery percentage enabled. If you want it, PM me & I'll send you the link.

If people saved their SHSHs and didn't "accidentally" upgrade then nobody would be impatient and stuck with no jb/unlock. Unless you bought a device with 4.2.1 preloaded. But even then it isn't a reason for you to gripe. The jb is for the community as a whole, not just for a few of you.

Wait hold on let me get this straight....your demanding that just because they promised before xmass, and because they recieve donations and make money thru Cydia that they should release it on your facts and demands?

First: Cydia (saurik) and dev teams = 2 different people/groups therefor whatever Cydia makes has doesn't get distributed to both parties...

Second: nothing in life is promised except death....

Third: what makes u think ur facts justifies someone elses work? Unless ur paying them directly (not donating) then ur words have as much value to them about deadlines as spam mail...

wow how about you get some respect and patience. its not as if CDT are being long to piss us off, theyre long to ensure the tools actually work. so far we have never had a jb tool with a serious bug, i (and many others) would prefer it to stay that way (because thats the way it should be tbh).. have you ever developed a jailbreak? NO. have you ever even found an exploit? the answer is NO so you can hardly sit there trolling when your sitting on your *** doing nothing. why dont you make a jailbreak then you wont have to wait? hey?
