buying an unlocked phone in person in a Canadian Apple store
Do I need to use cash... Canadian? Or could I get away with a US credit card?
This is sort of last minute, because I forgot to consider this issue. I'm going to Montreal in the morning and would prefer not to have to use cash just due to the annoyance of converting it before and after (and time considering I am trying to beat that Big Storm home.) I googled, but suck at it and don't see any answers to this.
If you have used a US card to buy an iphone in Canada please let me know
Thanks!
Hehehe, I am so excited to get a factory unlocked phone... and I have all sorts of goodies awaiting it (like a white back and Case-mate Jet bumper.)

I would think that you could use your American card but your bank will charge an exchange fee.

As long as it has the Visa or Mastercard logo on it you should have no problem would be my guess.

Most stores will accept American dollars in Montreal (although now with the exchange rate at par, I'm not so sure).
As long as you have a universally accepted method of payment (credit via Visa/Mastercard) you can buy whatever you want!

Thank you guys. I've been assuming the same based on other trips north, but I never tried buying from Apple aside from not being able to from the online store. The only reason I worry is that Apple has been trying to deter online purchases from the states and so I assume might try to with actual stores also?
I'd like to just go with the CC then. I guess if they freak out and don't allow it I can try another location?

1 Canadian Dollar = 1.0021 US Dollar.
The exchange rate is almost spot on so exchange rate fees won't be bad.

I want to note that I ended up using a CC, and the employee definitely did not mind that it was American.
The new phone is awesome!!!
(This was a trip from hell though.) Due to weather and traffic jams I left at 6 and wasn't home until after 23:00! Oh, and the border officials for both countries made a big to-do about searching my car and detaining me, lol.
Now that the phone is set up it all seems quite worth the effort
