How do I kick 3G out of recovery mode?
I started working on several old 3G iPhones I've had laying around that need repair. One of them had a busted LCD (fixed it) and is saying its in recovery mode (iTunes message) and I'd like to see if I can get it out without doing the factory restore. Guy told me it was full (all 16GB) of music and I'd like to get that if possible before erasing it. I've had the phone since well before 4.2.1 dropped so I know its an earlier FW version.
TU used to be able to kick it out but it refuses to recognize any phones for me now (current TU version) unless they are on. It won't kick out of recovery on any phone I've tried. The option doesn't even show up because it isn't recognizing a phone is connected, even though iTunes recognizes it.
Any recommendations? Not a huge deal but senuti is a handy tool so I like to get what I can

^+1, you're likely describing DFU mode and not recovery.
Try holding home and power for 10-15 seconds and release. Then attempt to power on as normal. That usually kicks out of DFU.

TinyUmbrella won't kick out of recovery on 4.2.1. It hasn't been updated to do so. You would have to restore to a custom fw to get it out.
Edit: if you're not on 4.2.1, it could be a different issue.Last edited by i.Annie; 01-30-2011 at 12:26 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Right, like I mentioned in my OP the phone is running an earlier version than 4.2.1. I got in in September and hadn't touched it till yesterday.
Seems like there should be a way to do this. TU used to be such a handy tool and they seriously made it suck with the last 3 updates.

Well like I said, if it isn't on 4.2.1 it could be a different issue. You might need to restore to a custom firmware to get it out. I've also been stuck in recovery before no matter how I restored. I fixed it by restoring to a custom firmware.

Well if music is the only concern, the owner should already have them on iTunes. So syncing it back in after restoring shouldn't be an issue. I don't believe you can pull the music to iTunes if it isn't already in iTunes library. I can't be 100% on that but usually music goes through iTunes anyhow.
