iPhone 4 Wet, Ideas?
A few weeks ago, my grand daughter dropped my iPhone 4 in the tub....got it out kind of fast, but not fast enough apparently. The screen went black. I immediatly shook it out, dried it off, and put it in a bag of rice, in a zip lock bag. Left it in there for 4 days.
It was still black screen; I then decided just to hook it up to itunes and see what happens, bammo, itunes recognized the phone and wanted to restore, so hit ok...of course it errored out...now keep in mind, the screen was still a black screen. So I ruled out being able to fix it.
Today, I decided to try it once more, before bringing in to repair...guess what, bammo again, the screen went to the emergency call screen.
So, I hooked it to itunes again and tried to restore, it gets all the way to the Installing Iphone Firmware, on the iphone, the progress bar makes it about 3/4 of the way, but then I get the error (9), not able to restore error!!!
I've tried 3 other computers, and 3 different sync cables.
Any ideas from the wizards around here; short of bringing to an expensive repair shop; or worse yet, and apple center??
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer....oh, and please, cuz I know some will be tempted to say, "why not put it back in the bag of rice, seems every time you take it out, something else works!" Please, don't say that...LOL!
Thanks
Chris

I'm not sure what error 9 means. Have you tried setting the phone into dfu mode first and then restore? That or recovery mode.
If that doesn't work, I'd recommend getting some isopropyl alcohol (nothing below 95%) and allowing it to be submerged for 10-15 minutes to wash out and water residue that might be causing a hardware block. This will also prevent corrosion. Set in rice for another night to dry.
No worries, iso alcohol will not damage the device, it can only help or do nothing.
What firmware was it on before? Try to jailbreak it since you said you had it on the emergency call screen. And then attempt a restore after.
I really would recommend the alcohol though, you never know if corrosion can occur and give you further and worse problems.

Dude.... Don't underestimate Apple's customer service...
I took a phone up there that I sat in a wet cup holder and they new it got wet and still replaced it for me.
THAT was the first iPhone4...
Second one I dropped flat on it's face and shattered the screen.
They replaced that one as well..
Go try them... It's worth a shot if you ask me. They may just replace your phone.

Tell them you were showering and the steam changed the sensor color
somebody actually did experience that before, too bad Apple wasn't nice to him tho.

Thanks so much for all the advice...yeah, I'm going to take it to them, what do I have to lose right? And yes, certainly not tell them about the tub :-) I like the Shower story, think I'll use that one!
Thanks again guys!
PS: Regarding the first post, if they don't assist me, I'll definitely try that. Peace!
