I have a friend on 4.0.1 that wants to upgrade to 4.1, yet not all the way too 4.2... So can he download the 4.1 firmware and then hit 'option' while clicking restore and upgrade his firmware to 4.1? I'v never tried so im not sure if it works?
Then he'd jailbreak with greenposion.
I believe as long as he has SHSH saved for 4.1 then yes download the custom FW from MMI and shift restore. Don't forget he will have to preserve his BB if he relies on an unlock.
I'm pretty sure if the SHSH aren't saved then no because apple aren't signing 4.1 anymore. Someone please correct me if that is wrong.
You didnt mention what iPhone it was but if it's a 4 you could then JB with limera1n and unlock with ultrasn0w as an option.
You will need shsh saved for 4.1 to do this, Download Tiny Umbrella and connect your phone and click Save my Shsh and if you have 4.1 all well and good. You would then just download the 4.1 firmware for your phone, Run tiny umbrella and then Shift+Restore to the 4.1 you downloaded. If you have no 4.1 saved there is NO WAY to go to 4.1
Like taz says if you need the unlock you will need to use Pawnage or Sn0wbreez to make a CF so you keep your baseband
