To Trade or Not To Trade?
I have an opportunity to trade my not really being used blackberry torch for a white 16gb 3G. I already have a 8gb 3G. I've always liked the white iPhone better. Problem is his is running 5.15 with 4.2.1. I know I can jailbreak and unlock using redsnow and the iPad boot 6.15. I read that messes up the GPS though. It would seem pointless to have it without being able to use the gps. Should I pass and wait for something else? My blackberry isn't in pristine shape nor worth an iPhone 4 or even 3GS trade IMO.

I wouldnt say a iPhone 3G is same value as a Torch at all (And I dont like blackberries so that's saying something). 3GS is more on par I would think.

I guess, but a 3G is very dated technology at this point. A torch is a relatively new phone.

I come bearing a gift. I'll give you a hint. It's in my diaper and it's not a toaster.

It isn't that hard. I've done it a bunch of times. I'm 14. You just need to make sure that you don't buy a cheap one.

Yea its not that hard if you have a video in front of you at the same time, just takes steady hands and organization.
Better than trading a pretty recent phone, for a phone thats support is about to be dropped.
If i were you, i'd look for a trade online, which in florida there are dozens of people trading 3gs's for blackberrys, theres been a handful of times that people think they have a 3g, when its actually a 3gs, just look for the chrome on the back.
or str8 up sell your torch and buy a 3gs.
Basically if you trade a torch for anything lower than a 3gs, you just got worked. You don't have to trade for a perfect condition 3gs, but similar condition, then just change the backplate and bezel, fairly easy, and you have a brand new phone. (or buy a case)Last edited by babyblue_pimp; 01-20-2011 at 09:50 PM.

Honestly, I don't think its worth it. Having to update to the iPad baseband is risky as you could lose GPS function. I think a 3GS is a better trade. Like x98car said, it is dated. I think Apple is stopping updates on it like they did for the 2g iPhone. If you're going to trade for the 3G, ask for some cash too because then you could sell the 3G and use the cash to get a 3GS. Or just keep the 3G and keep the cash

Just checked on my local craigslist and it seems the torch and an iPhone 3G almost match in pricing, though the torch seems to be worth a little bit more. Good call Wes
Sell the torch.
