Iphone without data question.
I just downgraded my iphone plan. I'm paying 10$ as an added line and 7$ for part of the unlimited text family plan. I was wondering if there's any way to use my iphone still (had to give them the imei to the other phone I'm using).
Questions:
Is there a way to completely disable 3G? (via cydia)
Can AT&T find out I'm using my iphone if I do?
What would I have to do to enable full usage without 3G on my iphone?
What Limitations are there if I do use it?
Any other questions I couldn't think of please give the answers to them.
Thanks a lot guys.

There is a toggle in SBSettings to disable cellular data (AT&T doesn't care if it's EDGE or 3G as far as I know). I had an iPhone on an AT&T account for 2-3 months w/o data service and I just kept cell data toggled off. Occasionally checking the Settings -> Usage tab confirmed I was at 0 kB of data use.
The only problem was the flag got reset whenever the phone rebooted, so just had to make sure to turn it off again. There is an app in cydia that disables cell data on boot up as well, sorry I don't have the name off hand, I didn't need to use it.
Not too sure I understand your other questions, hopefully this helps!
Edit: Looked it up, it's called "Data Blocker" in cydia.Last edited by krosis; 01-14-2011 at 04:10 PM. Reason: additional information

^^What they said.
I used a 2g iphone with edge turned off for over a year and got an occasional text from AT&T stating they have the right to change my plan and add the appropriate data plan for the phone but they never did. Apparently, they do know what device you're using. You can use the phone fully but if you use data, be ready to pay whatever they charge.

I got another question. I downloaded the data blocker app but was curious about sbsettings. It says 3g is off, but data is on. Does that apply to internet or just texts?

I have done that, I'm just worried about at&t finding out and forcing data back onto me.
