Major crash
Hi all,
My jailbroken 3gs took a dump today, crashed while I was using it. Tried to reboot but it now comes up with the connect to iTunes logo. Of course I'd rather not do that, any ideas how to bring it back to life? If I can't it'll be bye bye JB, again, for a while anyway.
3gs, old bootrom, untethered JB with jailbreakme, 4.01 FW

Have you tried kicking it out of recovery with tiny umbrella? If you are old bootrom and dont need to unlock then you can just update to 4.2.1 and use redsnow 0.9.6rc8 to jailbreak again.

Were you trying to restore to a custom firmware?

No, just regular Apple update

Did you let itunes download the update or did you manually download it? Maybe try a dfu restore.

iTunes downloaded it automatically. I believe it is stuck in dfu mode? (iTunes logo with USB)

Very odd, these errors you are getting are normally from trying to restore to custom firmwares. Maybe try downloading the 4.2.1 firmware manually and shift restore to that.

Well.... still trying, now I get a white screen, not black

Edit: Got to dfu, switched on iTunes, turned off my security, iTunes detected the phone and went through the motions. iPhone screen changed to grey, then white, then iTunes error message 21. Also at the same time my PC told me that I should use a USB2 connection, which I am already.
Tried 2 PC's now, no cigarLast edited by Borischan; 01-13-2011 at 06:35 PM.

Update
Nothing I tried, or the helpful staff at the phone shop (unusually) could recover my phone from error 1604. From recovery mode or from dfu mode, sometimes ended up with a white screen.....
Not sure if Apple store could have done any better, but would have cost a bit I'm sure.
Now in possession of a shiny new iPhone 4, not too unhappy

Update...again
Well, I recently saw a message on a particular tech site (RP) about a new ireb3 from iH8sn0w, so, with nothing to lose I decided to give it a go. Dug out the old 3GS, it had been used as an expensive paper weight.... Tried 1st time...nada, 2nd time...error 21, 3rd time.. holy crap, she lives!!!!
Now I can re-JB and sell it....
