I would re install Winterboard, You dont need anything else and if you have been trying for two years then it is a problem with Winterboard.

What iPhone do you have now because some iPhone4 themes will not work on 3G and 3GS and vise versa

Have you tried any other theme to verify it isn't a problem with winterboard or your device?

You open winterboard, find the theme, hold down the right side where the indicator is, and slide it up to the top of the list.

Try uninstalling winterboard and reinstalling, if that doesn't work.

If that fails too, you might need to restore and rejb, it seems something else might be wrong.

    +1

And make sure it has a little tick at the side of the theme you want

You're probably restoring from back up which is why the problem isn't going away. If you restore and set up as new, it should be fine.

As i.Annie says Restore and set up as a new phone, It means you will have to put phone numbers in again but at least you will have a proper working phone. Because by Restoring from Backup you are just moving the problem and any other problem with it.

I always set up as a new phone on any restore, its a pain but a lot cleaner and safer
