help: mail, mail settings, phone & contacts app keep crashing

i have used terminal to set mail permissions to mobile:mobile but that didn't help.

Mail app launches then quits when I try to open a message.
Contacts & Phone app quit within seconds of being launched
Settings quits when Mail, Contacts, Calendars is launched

Any suggestions?

I should add that I resynced via itunes, rebooted, resprung, reset network settings and still nothing.

Yes you would restore to what ever firmware you have on providing you have shsh on file, and re-jailbreak.

Have you got shsh on file and what phone have you got with what firmware.

I've got an iPhone 3G 3.1.3 (7E18) 05.12.01
Doesn't cydia save the shsh for me?
I've also got pkgbackup but have never used it
I also have appbackup but never used it either.

what else should i back uo? and do i restore from back up or restore as new?

I have never used either Pkgbackup or Appbackup so i cant comment on them, but i assume you just run them after you have restored.

I always set up as a new phone when ever i restore, as it's a lot cleaner and eliminates a lot of problems, Yes i know its a pain as you will have to put all your contacts back in and re set your mail but IMO it's better.

As you are on a 3G on 3.1.3 you can just make sure you have the latest iTunes, and Download a stock 3.1.3 for the 3G from this site and do a Shift+Restore.

And re jailbreak

3.1.3 is the best firmware for your phone anyway.
