3G and E Coverage on 4.0.1

Recently upgraded to 4.0.1 from 3.1.2. My 3G and Edge keeps dropping in and out. Fluctuates from 0 to 3 bars without moving and eventually I get no coverage and have to reset. Is there a way to fix without restoring back to 3.1.2? Is this problem fixed at a higher iOS (with untethered unlock for 3GS new bootrom)? Or maybe a fix with cydia?

Sorry I cant search properly on my own.. On base for the weekend and obviously my 3G coverage sucks.

Also, took my phone apart recently to change the battery... Maybe the sim card doesn't have good contact now?

Have you tried turning 3G off to see if you can get good 2G service?

Have been toggling 3G, edge, and airplane on and off to test coverage in different areas. 2G acts pretty similarly to 3G. Currently moving from 1 to 3 bars in 3G while sitting stationary - doesn't make much since to me - now just dropped to 1 bar E. When on skype - calls always drop when 3G switches to E.

I dont know if anything in cydia would help, maybe a restore and setting it up as new to see if it is something in your backup.
