Jailbreak problem
I am using a iPhone 4 running 4.1, and whenever I jailbreak it I have noticeably worse battery then before. I haven't installed any programs and it still drains battery. Can anyone help me out?

There have been some battery issues, but they are usually traceable to a specific program, not the jailbreak process itself.
Do you hacktivate / unlock your phone? Which jailbreak method did you use? If you go into Settings -> Usage, do your usage timers show the same number for standby and in use?

I would only update if you don't mind rebootin your phone at the computer. 4.2 isn't really all it's cracked up to be you got air print which only works if you buy a new hp printer or use hacker software. Then you have airplay which was the biggest joke in the world. Only let's you stream on the programs apple wants unless jailbroken. Then you have the stupid and pointless volume slider widget in the task switcher. I have a iPhone 4 4.2.1 with redsnow tethered jailbreak. And I was disappointed but don't let me talk you out of it lol. Jailbreak works great, software works great and on the plus side 4.2.1 is alil quicker. Have a great day and I hope I helped.

Just for grins, install the iOS4-specific version of MobileTerminal (search for how to do that), install the Top program through Cydia, and open MobileTerminal and type top and hit Enter. Double-tap to make the keyboard hide itself. See if anything is using up an unusual amount of battery life other than MobileTerminal or Top. If, for instance, mediaserve or Springboard are taking up more than a few percentage points of CPU time, you might have an issue.

When you Jail broke your phone did you set up as a new phone or restore from back up ?
As if you restored from back up it could transfer things from an old Jailbreak across and effect the battery.
I would re jailbreak and set up as a new phone, i know its a pain in the **** but it eliminates most problems, It is something i always do

I can't find TOP anywhere in Cydia. Any idea what depository houses it?

It's in a default repository, but you have to have at least "developer" filtering to see it. Change this in the Cydia settings.
