Yes there is, you will need a few things:

-itunes installed on the computer (for drivers and apple services)
-Veency (VNC server, get it from cydia) (Options will be in Settings.app)
-Ability to do tethering either natively or by using MyWi or PDANet.
-VNC client (Free ones like UltraVNC, RealVNC, TigerVNC etc..)

    Once you have everything installed/ready.

1 - Connect your device with your USB cable
    2 - Activate USB tethering
3 - Your iPhone will now give (through DHCP) an IP to your PC (making the iPhone and PC on the same network).
4 - Figure out what is the IP address of the USB tethering interface on your iPhone. (there are many ways to figure this out, on windows "ipconfig /all" or just go to your network connections, choose the iPhone and check detailed status. Look for the gateway(which is your iphone).)
5 - Open your VNC Client, Connect to your iPhone by entering its IP

If you are not confortable with figuring out the IP, feel free to reply with your OS version and language and I will give you step by step guide.

Also, if you can use a WiFi network instead of USB, you wouldn't need to install iTunes or any tethering app.

To use your phone at work without constantly looking like your are playing/texting on it.

I do this every single day at work, it is very usefull.

I have seen the option to use Veency but I was a little worried about the internet usage... Also I'm on a desktop pc and don't have wireless on it.

I do however have PDAnet installed on both my pc and iphone 4

Also is there anyway to only use my PDAnet connection for the RD top my iphone and not the pc network? I still want to work on the normal PC network whi8le RDing to my iphone,.

I also found it a little laggy...

How fast will a 1 gig plan be used up...

So you are already able to tether through USB with PDAnet?

If so, when you do tethering, your computer will be connected to two (or more) networks. Depeding on your OS there are many ways of telling your computer what network interface to use for any other address than the ones on your iphone network.

I'm not sure what options are available to you in PDAnet as I never used it more then 2 seconds years ago. But I know that with MyWi you can tether your iphone wifi connection to usb. (since your iphone wouldn't be on a WiFi network, you wont be tethering WiFi or 3G/EDGE(and not be using your plan).) Give it a try!

(this solution still uses veency, if you find the refresh rate too slow, modify your vnc client options to lower color settings or better compression.)

    Yes I have PDAnet installed.

Also I'm not sure if you noticed but I don't have a wifi connection either.

Is this mandatory for this to work?

When I try to connect without the wifi and only usb tethering I'm getting error 10061

You don't need WiFi a connection. What I was saying is that you can share through tethering your (inexistent) WiFi connection instead of sharing your 3G/EDGE data plan. At least i know it is possible with MyWi.

Where do you get this 10061 error? On the PC PDAnet app or on the phone? I suggest you install itunes on your PC so you have all the necessary Apple services running. With iTunes installed you wont need to worry about PDAnet barfing on you. Or, you might wanna get MyWi(cracked or trial version) to replace PDAnet

Here's what I have done so far,

Connected the USB tethering using PDAnet which works amazing,

I then installed the client Veency and enabled it on my iphone4,

I then installed TightVNC on my desktop,

I go to start, all programs, tightvnc, and launch tightvnc viewer.

It then asks for the VNC Server, I got this IP from "Networked Connections" and the IP for my PDAnet connection. "PDANet Modem Server and Clint IP's are the same.

I type the IP in my VNC server.

    Connecting to... ...

    Status Connection Initialized

    Failed to connect to server...

When I launch the VNC Viewer from real VNC I get the following when trying to connect,

unable to connect to host: Connection timed out (10060)

In that case you most probably don't have the right IP address for your vnc server (iphone). What OS are you using on the PC?(that'll help for troubleshooting).

There are many ways of finding the iphones IP Addresses, the most reliable one would be through mobileterminal with the "ifconfig" command as root

    OR

If you are running windows, go to Start -> Run -> cmd.exe to open a command prompt window.
In the cmd prompt type "ipconfig /all" you will get a list of information on all of your PC's network connections (virtual and physical).
Scroll through the output to find the appropriate section, if I remember correctly it should be under something like "Apple mobile modem device" But since you are using PDAnet it can be different.

Anyways.. you are looking for the "Default Gateway" line. You will find the "default gateway" line on more than once (at least twice, one for your iphone tethering connection, the other for your "regular" network) Test all of them. You will find the right one.

Also, on your iphone, go to Settings app, Veency section. Make sure it is enabled! And set a password (if you don't you have to accept manually on the iphone everytime you will connect).

Once you have found the iphones IP (which is actually the tethering router's IP) you wont have to find out what it is everytime, it will be the same IP, as long as you use the same technique.

I got it connecting thanks for all the help atkrtoker.

One question, when in an app how do I get out of it!

I don't seem to know how to access the home button or similar functionality.

    Thanks again!
