Whats the best OS for a 3G ? Going to JB and unlock my older 3G iPhone........

I've got a 3G that JB and Unlocked currently running on 3.1.

Purchased it a while back for a spare and haven't used it so I gave it to my daughter for Christmas.

It's running a little slow, So I thought I'd wipe everything off and start for scratch and re - JB/Unlock..

Curious what you guys think would be the best operating software to install back on it to allow the phone run at peak performance.

Don't need any backgrounder programs, special wallpapers or themes, SBS setting, etc..
Just want the bare minimum to allow the phone to be used for calling, texting, music, and run non gaming type apps at a good speed..

I've got 3.1.2 installed on my 3G and am happy with it. No lock ups, runs at good speed, etc..

The one you are on is the best ios for a 3g, 4.xx is to much for the 3g processor.

I've read that about 4.0 and above.

Did you mean that I should keep it on 3.1 or change to 3.1.2?

3.1.2 or 3.1.3 are the best firmwares with out a doubt

Forget what procedure I used to JB and Unlock mine but I'll research that again.
As I recall, I used pwnage, untrasn0ww..

Use jailbreakme.com for jailbreaking and ultrasn0w for unlocking . Dont update to 4.x because your baseband will be upgraded and you will probably loose unlock ability. Just stick to 3.1.3 its best for 3g.

I forget which program is on my laptop, ultrasn0w or blackra1n. Will both do the change to 3.1.3?

Ya just use limera1n to jb ultrasn0w to unlock

Limera1n won't work on 3.1.3. Either use jailbreakme.com or redsnow 0.9.4.

Lol no prob. Ya limera1n only works as low as 4.0. It also doesn't work on iPhone 3G at all

I also have an iphone 3g with OS 4.2.1 and 5.15.04 firmware. It is already jailbroken but isnt currently unlocked so I can use my tmobile service on it. I also wanted to know if I sjould downgrade to 4.1 os, as well as downgrade the firmware? I am slightly new to this so any steps possible would be a great help. BTW im currently downloading the downgrade 4.1 on my mac now. is tht a good idea?
