Jailbreaking and unlocking 3GS

Hi,

I have a 3GS, 16gb iphone 3.1.3 and baseband 05.12.01. I want to upgrade it to 4.1. Will I be able to jailbreak and unlock with 4.1? Thanks.

If you have 4.1 SHSH then you can use pwnage tool or snowbreeze to make a custom 4.1 to restore to so that you can still unlock.

Can I upgrade my 3gs with 3.0.1 and baseband 04.26.08 straight to 4.1? or I have to upgrade with other firmware 1st, such as 3.1.2 then upgrade the 4.1 last? Please be advised. Thank you so much

You can update straight to a custom 4.1 to preserve your baseband as long as you have SHSH for 4.1. If you dont need to unlock then you dont need to worry about a custom firmware.

If you restore to stock firmware dont go past 4.0.2 if you want to unlock. If you want to go to 4.1 then you need to use pwnage tool or snowbreeze to make a custom firmware to restore to. You will need to use tiny umbrella to assist in restoring too (or point hosts to cydia).

Also, when do I use the TinyUmbrella? After jailbreak and before unlocking?

Yup you can use snowbreeze to do it. All you need to do with tiny umbrella is open it once, then close it. Doing this will set your hosts to cydia so that your SHSH for 4.1 can be used.

Also, when do I use tiny umbrealla before or after unlock or doesn't matter?
