Carrier settings are sent by your provider, so you could just ring them and they will send a sim update.

Or you could try going to settings and reset network settings

i even tried restring firmware. that dint work , too. and if i put my sim in any other mobile phone it gets the carrier name from network but my iphone somehow gets the old name. i am confused to think how can iphone gets old name when network isnt even broadcasting the old name.

Not sure why but you could get Make it Mine from Cydia and name it anything you wanted. Or you could do what i suggest below and that way you can but some fancy text on there, if you ask in the themes forum (got mine from Elite Pro) they will make you your chosen text in PNG and then follow bellow.

Here is the Easiest way i have found to do this.

Bars i would suggest that you put this on the front screen as i have had loads of people saying they are having the same problem....

    Anyway here goes.

    1) download and install "MakeItMine" (MIM) From Cydia

    2) get your png file of your logo somebody will make you if you ask nicely!

    Filenames need to be:
Default_CARRIER_what you want@2x .png (case sensitive)
FSO_CARRIER_what you want@2x .png (case sensitive)

Then go into your phone via SSH or ifunbox, Place the images into "System/Library/Carrier Bundles/Unknown.Bundle/"

Load up MIM & type in "what you want@2x" Then hit "Carrier" at the top Left corner.

Then right away you should see your carrier change. (if not then try a respring or reboot) - it changes instantly for me though.

I am sure you understand how it works now, but please keep in mind its Case Sensitive so whatever your filename is> "what you want@2x", then thats what you type in MIM

    Hope this helps you out

Did you made a restore from backup recently?

If you did a backup of your iPhone thru iTunes when it was with the older carrier name and after they changed their carrier name you did a restore from backup, your iPhone are going to show your last carrier name because you made that backup with your older carrier name. Try to use Make it Mine and change it to whatever you want then when it changes go to Make it Mine again, and leave it blank and press carrier and respring to see if it change to the actual carrier. If it dont work try to go to settings and reset network settings.

And remember once you fix it, make your new backup with iTunes with the new carrier name.

Network name can be found in 2 places:
    - On the status bar, next to signal level, the network name or logo is from a carrier bundle in the iOS. iPhone takes MCC/MNC and looks up the carrier bundles for the logo.
    - In Settings, Carrier: the network name is transmitted by the network operator on its broadcast channel.
