by possible i meant if a mod (xtension) was made to do it.. easiest way would be to let winterboard to allow the use of .gif extension (like it allows html wallpapers to b executed) although saurik would have to implement that himself..
sorry to make it sound like you could do it
didnt mean to

I know they work on web sites and through Safari, but have you ever tried installing one on your phone ? it just sits there as a picture image ? I dont know why they dont work but i have never seen one working.
If they did you could just make your self a icon and name it Gif1@2xpng for your icon of choice and it would be an animated gif.
But i am pretty sure it would not work as the iphone has not got the software to run Gif files.
If i was you i would ask this question in one of the theme threads and see if any of the theme experts can give you a defined answer.
Like i said i may be wrong but i dont think i am. but let me know if i am

well safari obviously has gif decoders because it shows them on websites. i it didnt then it wouldnt be able to show them.. and it obviously wouldnt work by naming it png because then itll try using a png dexoder on it..
you dont need special software to read gifs, saurik would just need to implement the use of them into winterboard
