Very strange - so far unreported - battery drain issue
Hello!
First time around, no idea if this is the right forum section for the problem, but let's get on with it:
Phone info:
iPhone 3GS - FW 4.1
New bootrom
Jailbroken and hacktivated via pwnagetool on Mac OS 10.6.5 - iTunes 10.1
ultrasn0w unlocked
SSH - No other JB apps installed
Push and location services disabled at all times
Problem:
Sudden abnormal battery drain, approx. 15% per hour in standby.
Detailed description:
The phone was jailbroken on the day of the 4.1 unlock release, and worked normally for about a week after that. Battery usage was a bit high (~1% precent per hour), higher than I had noticed on my previous 3GS. Therefore, when SAM was announced on the dev-team blog, I decided to try it. However, within about a day of the restore, this sudden battery drain started. I had done no other modifications to the phone, had not been using any apps different from the usual. Push and location services were always disabled.
The first solution I tried was restoring the phone and then restoring from a backup. The problem persisted.
The second solution was "clean" restore. This appeared to work, and battery usage went back to normal for the first 24 hours. The next day however, the drain returned. This, without me adding or using any apps that hadn't already been present at the time when the phone was working properly.
Tonight, I discovered something even stranger. I had my first long phone call since the incident, and during the call, battery usage dropped compared to standby. The call lasted for approximately three hours, and during that time, the usage was roughly 8% per hour, as opposed to the 15% observed before in standby.
Also, I have no idea if this is at all related to the problem, but another strange thing started happening at the same time as the drain began. Whenever I plug the phone in to my Amethyst iGhost speaker/charger, the speakers 'pop' with a two second interval. This happens regardless of whether sound is being played or not, and it does not happen with any other iDevices that I have tried plugging in to the speaker, just this phone.
All of this strikes me as very strange and I haven't a clue about what to do or where the issue may lie, so I really hope that someone can help me out.
Thanks in advance!
FYI I am a fairly experienced Mac/*nix user and jailbreaker. I know my way around CLI utilities if any such are useful or needed.
Update 1:
I have also observed that, when fully charged, the phone stays at 100% for approximately 45 minutes. The 15% per hour drop starts as soon as the battery percentage hits 99%Last edited by jespez; 12-18-2010 at 12:06 AM.

Normally battery drain is down to Ultrasn0w. But not always try a supported SIM card in there with ultras0w un installed to see if you can narrow it down to that ?
If you have a MAC you could make a custom FW for 4.2.1 and keep your baseband to see if that firmwear works any better. and if not you can always go back down to 4.1 as long as you SHSH is saved.
But my guess is that ultrasn0w is where the problem lies, but you could also try a different Jailbreak. i am not 100% (as i used limera1n) but green pois0n has an hactivation option.
In short i would try.
1. Supported SIM card and un install Ultrasn0w.
2. Jailbreak at 4.1 with greenpois0n
3. Make a custom 4.2.1 to keep your baseband.
Just my opinion, Good luck mate

Problem seems solved!
Procedure:
1. Restored to stock 4.1 with iTunes, received error 1015
2. Jailbroke / hacktivated with greenpois0n
The phone has now been idle for +90 minutes with no battery drop whatsoever.
