Default Before update ask yourself this..

Before you update your FW or Cydia ask yourself this, 'do I really need to'?
I read on here time and time again about people having problems after updating. If the phone was working fine beforehand was it really worth it? Probably not!
Now this is just my opinion but if you rely on a jailbreak and an unlock DON'T upgrade to 4.2 just stay on 4.1 for now until all the bugs are ironed out,
    Do you really need 4.2?
Is it going to improve your quality of life?
Probably not! so just save yourself the hassle. Same as Cydia if the one you got now works just fine then leave well alone.

If it aint broke don't try and fix it!

I understand completely and to be honest I'm a sucker for wanting all the latest features too, however, I can't take my phone back to apple if I mess it up so personally I gotta be careful.

I always have a need to be on the latest firmware. That's why I always save my SHSH and have a factory unlocked iPhone. Always have a redundancy plan

I agree. I haven't updated at all. I'm still on 4.0.1. I'm waiting for infinidock to get updated to 4.2. Then I might upgrade.

Ya not everybody has them so I always suggest never updating until you know for sure it is safe to do so. I just don't practice what I preach.

4.1 is pretty much trouble free (atleast it has been for me and most others from what I read).

Ya 4.1 is pretty up to date now as far as all (or most) the cydia apps and stuff being compatible.

I suppose the moral of this post I was getting at is do a bit of research before diving in head first.

Can save a whole load of hassle.

Don't be such a weenie wimp. We're already a nation of sheep. If you know what you are doing, upgrading brings improvements you may like. IOS 4.2 brought AirPrint and AirPlay.I use both of them. If you don't know what you are doing, you shouldn't be messing with your phone anyway.

Old Bootrom 3GS, 5.13.04. Went from 4.1 to 4.2.1 jailbroken/unlocked to T_Mobile AND preserved my baseband by simply following instructions.
