Jailbreaking and Unlocking
I still read that Jailbreaking ( ruled legal this past July by US federal COurt) and Unlocking is illegal.
Why do so many idiots believe this?
For instance, I sign onto a plan and get a phone, the phone breaks the next day, the company says tough luck if it broke because It fell into the toilet. I still have to pay for the service the next 2 years.
So they do not care about the phone only collecting the fee.
So if I unlock the phone and use it on another carrier why is it illegal? The Carriers cannot have it both ways, if they took you to court they would have to prove unlocking cost them money (Damage) if you pay your bill you are fulfilling the contract.
As long as you fulfill the contract ( Contract law) then there is no harm to other party.
This is why Jailbreaking and unlocking is legal, it does not harm the other party. On the other hand being stopped from doing it can be understood as harming us since now we do not enjoy the functions we want or need.
In some cases the reduced function could cost us money ( Damage ) like having to buy another device to use on the other carrier.

Where does it say unlocking is illegal? After you use a phone for x amount of days you can request an unlock from your carrier.
If it was "illegal" why would AT&T or other carriers commit a crime and unlock it for you?
