3g only works sometimes

I have a 3gs on 4.0.1 and only recently put it on a data plan with telus. Right away it obtains a data ip address, but it only sometimes is able to actually receive information from the web. Sometime it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it decides to work it usually only lasts for about 5 mins before it quits again. Sometimes it will start working again if you turn on and off data or you reboot the phone. Calls and texts work fine and I don't know what to do about this data problem.
I have also tried on 4.1 but it was exactly the same but also drained my battery in less then a day. It is currently jailbroken with limera1n.

It's not a iPhone problem !

The problem is with your provider, i would phone them and explain the problems you are having and get them to send you a new SIM card out
