No the card should be in there to activate it. Does it say that the to please insert original sim and does it even detect the iPhone. Do you happen to got another active AT&T sim card. Let me see another way to activate it. (sorry it took me so long. I just got out of the shower.)

it does now and the register screen pops up on itunes wanting me to register my phone but it still dont show the globe on the screen , i downloaded 3.1.2 firmware because i read on another site i would need to shift restore it to that but now i cant even get it into recover mode

Okay you are gonna have to register it to activate it. Then it will show the globe.

You were not wrong, especially since he said he doesnt want to use it as a phone. 2G iPhones have a different sim check than the newer devices. If he were to activate it with a ATT sim card then put another one in the phone would kick back to the emergency call screen. Kind of like how the newer phones would react if they were activated with phonebook sims.

thanks guys for all the info, Tahaninja32 your info helped a lot and x98car i did as u sugested and it seems 2 be working great. the only thing ive noticed is youtube is not workin is this normal, thanks again to everybody for ur help

Ya thats normal, you can install cydia.pushfix.info as a new source in cydia. Then install one of the youtube fixes from there.
