Scared to try SAM
So I've been reading and posted about my battery drain. A few suggested I run the SAM program on my unlocked/jail broken 3.1.3 iPhone. I'm afraid that all my stuff won't work after. Everything on my phone works right now. MMS, Push etc. Maybe I'm just on it too much draining the battery.

I am not sure if SAM will help you or not on 3.1.3. It is meant for people on 4.1 and 4.2.1 who hacktivated.

Ok. I "thanked" you. I will let it be. One more question how do I change the SMS tones to one I got off cydia? I downloaded the Dee de Dee one and it won't show up in the settings?

I think you may need winterboard to activate the sms tones

Right, SAM is merely a way to do an official activation instead of the faked "Hacktivation" which is necessary if you don't have an official AT&T SIM card to use. On older firmwares, the drawbacks to hacktivation are issues with MMS and Youtube and push notifications, though there are workarounds for each carrier. For 4.2.1 however (and possibly 4.x in general, not sure), for some reason the iPhone continues to look for a valid activation constantly, causing lots of data usage and lots of CPU usage for people who hacktivated. This caused extremely bad battery life, and that's why SAM was created.
If you've got no issues, then I wouldn't worry about it. If you used an official AT&T SIM card, then definitely don't worry about it.
As others have stated, for the SMS tones, enable one of them in Winterboard and then try the built-in tones in Settings. It's not really possible to add new tones, so these packages merely replace existing tones.
