Default How do you restore 3.1.3 now?

Can anyone please help me? I am trying to restore my iphone 3gs 3.1.3, I have down loaded the F/W from this site, and I hit shift restore in itunes, point it to the 3.1.3 F/W, it starts to restore but then says an unknown error has occurred. Has apple disabled allowing us to restore to the old versions that we are currently running? Also how would I get to my back up to restore in itunes? when I click on restore in itunes it wants to update to the newest version, and I want to stay on 3.1.3. Any help you can provide would be great. On a side note the reason I want to do this is because I installed the new version of Cydia, and I am getting errors, I want to go back to the old version of cydia.

    Thanks in advance,
    Skernie

Sorry, I am very new to this, how do I find that out. I can tell you that I don't have anything saved in Cydia, I didn't quite figure that out before I had this problem.

I tried another computer, and it said Java is not installed. I installed Java on it before I tried to install Tiny Umbrella. I am stumped.

I now have Tiny Umbrella installed on my computer, and have saved the SHSH files. What is the next thing I need to do?

    Thanks for your help,
    Skernie

Yup, thats it. That means you can restore to those firmware you have listed there. Do you require unlock or are you on official carrier?

Ok so if you want to unlock the latest you can go to is 4.0.2 stock firmware. You can go to 4.1 if you make a custom firmware with sn0wbreeze or pwnage tool. If you choose that route make sure you do not choose to activate the phone since you have a official sim to do the activation. You may want to stay away from 4.2.1 since if you have a new bootrom 3GS it will be a tethered jailbreak.

I want to stay away from the ipad firmware, so 4.1 will use the ipad firmware right? does 4.0.2 need the ipad firmware?

4.1 doesnt use the ipad firmware unless you specifically put it in a custom pwnage tool made firmware or install it with redsnow. Since you are on windows you can make a custom 4.1 firmware with sn0wbreeze 2.1 which will preserve your baseband so that you can still unlock after.
