Please Help! My iPhone is stuck in recovery mode 1013

sorry guys wasn't sure where to post this but ive searched through the forums and only found like 1.1.1 firmwares so i knew they were old so i have a newer version that i need help with please!
The sleep button on my iPhone broke and i took it to apple and they replaced my phone for free with a new one. I went home to jailbreak it, wouldn't work so i went to update from 4.1 to 4.2.1 and found out that i couldn't update getting the error message

"The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error occured (then i get different errors like 1611, 1303, and now 1611)

I've looked on google for hours, tried DFU mode many many times and as soon as it gets into DFU mode it just goes back to the picture of iTunes on my screen. Any help guys???

its an iPhone 4g btw if it makes any difference

try manually inserting the ipsw file

i did that as well...no luck

also i did the whole restart and reinstall itunes and all that as well
